Position Overview

This role is for a 2nd Shift Weeknight position with a 4/10 schedule. A shift differential will be applicable for this position.

Position Summary

The Senior Aircraft Quality Inspector is accountable to the Chief Inspector for evaluating the airworthiness of assigned tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist, supervise, and guide all personnel within the inspection department.
  • Ensure that all inspections are conducted thoroughly and that completed work is properly reviewed before being released.
  • Maintain organized files for work orders and inspection forms to facilitate quick access to specific assemblies or units.
  • Conduct regular checks on inspection tools and ensure calibration of precision testing equipment.
  • Develop and uphold a record-keeping system for checks and calibrations of inspection tools and precision test equipment, ensuring compliance with established check periods.
  • Properly execute FAA Form 337 and maintenance releases for all items cleared for service.
  • Perform preliminary, hidden damage, continuity, and final inspections on all items processed.
  • Ensure accurate tagging and identification of all components.
  • Oversee the return or proper disposal of rejected and unserviceable parts, following appropriate identification.
  • Coordinate metallurgical testing when necessary to confirm airworthiness or identify failure causes.
  • Manage shelf life materials, ensuring regular inspections and removal from service when necessary.
  • Maintain certification in accordance with FAR Part 65.
  • Delegate responsibilities to qualified personnel in their absence, while retaining overall accountability.
  • Complete special assignments and projects as directed by the Chief Inspector.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Education:

  • High School/GED
  • Preferred: A.S. degree in Aviation
  • A&P License

Experience:

  • Minimum of 8 years in the relevant field, with at least 5 years as an aircraft A&P Mechanic.
  • Several years of prior experience in inspection roles within aerospace quality systems that comply with FAA standards.
  • Experience with precision measurement instruments.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Advanced understanding of tasks and responsibilities within technical areas, along with a strong grasp of external regulations and functional work standards.
  • Leadership in applying new processes and skills to enhance technician functions.
  • Knowledge of machinery and tools, including their applications, repairs, and maintenance.
  • Quality control analysis through testing and inspections to evaluate product quality.
  • Troubleshooting to identify operational errors and implement solutions.
  • Understanding of customer service principles and FAA maintenance procedures.
  • Ability to interpret manufacturer and FAA-approved work instructions and inspect/install components.

Working Conditions / Environment / Special Requirements

  • Ability to work safely and professionally, adhering to all regulatory requirements including OSHA, EPA, and other applicable regulations.
  • Must be capable of wearing a respirator as per OSHA regulations without restrictions.
  • Flexibility to work varying hours and shifts as needed.
  • Subject to random drug and alcohol testing under FAA regulations.
