Position Summary:

The Superintendent plays a crucial role in managing field operations across various projects, ensuring that multiple teams and scopes of work are executed efficiently and profitably. This position requires daily collaboration with the General Foreman and Foreman to address challenges, make informed decisions, and facilitate coordination for safe and effective work execution. The Superintendent is also tasked with keeping the Project Manager fully informed about the status of projects, focusing on aspects such as cost, schedule, quality, safety, and any arising issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Safety Manager and Senior Project Manager to uphold a proactive safety culture and ensure a safe working environment on all projects:
    • Ensure all safety training and documentation are completed before work commencement.
    • Lead Weekly Toolbox Safety Meetings and conduct regular safety inspections to verify adherence to safety guidelines.
    • Address unsafe conditions and incidents promptly, implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
    • Assist in the development and implementation of safety policies and procedures.
  • Develop and execute Safety and Work Plans for significant tasks, including Building Outages and Crane hoists.
  • Support the preparation of General Conditions/General Requirements prior to contract execution, particularly for retrofit bids.
  • Engage in pre-design site surveys and design reviews, providing input on constructability and safety considerations.
  • Participate in Pre-Mobilization Meetings to ensure quality designs and plans are established, identifying potential issues.
  • Conduct pre-mobilization site walks to confirm readiness for field crew mobilization.
  • Oversee project start-up and preplanning with the Project Foreman.
  • Work with the Procurement Manager to forecast material needs and maintain visibility on stock levels.
  • Monitor daily timecard entries and reporting by field employees, collaborating with Payroll to resolve discrepancies.
  • Ensure compliance with labor requirements on all projects.
  • Provide leadership and training to field teams, promoting high-quality workmanship and innovative practices.
  • Facilitate the timely creation of the Field Labor Tracker spreadsheet by the General Foreman and Foreman.
  • Coordinate with clients, General Contractors, and subcontractors to ensure timely completion of critical path activities.
  • Manage field conflicts and ensure proper installation by coordinating with clients and subcontractors.
  • Identify and document changes that impact costs or schedules, ensuring timely action is taken.
  • Keep the Project Manager and Engineering team updated on field changes and prepare for final inspections.
  • Lead weekly reviews of labor and production metrics, addressing potential issues proactively.
  • Monitor material and equipment usage against budgets, identifying opportunities for cost savings.
  • Ensure Foreman have necessary documentation and verify that as-built drawings are current.
  • Develop and maintain an execution plan throughout project duration to ensure adherence to schedules.
  • Conduct routine site meetings to address daily challenges and coordinate with subcontractors.
  • Confirm completion of pre-commissioning reports and coordinate inspections to facilitate project progression.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of manpower needs for effective project planning.
  • Participate in post-project reviews to share insights and improve future project execution.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 7 years in commercial/industrial solar construction.
  • Experience in construction management, both self-performing and subcontracting.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant electrical and plumbing codes.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans.
  • Experience with permitting processes and inspections.
  • OSHA-30 certification and JW Electrical License preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and related software.
  • Bilingual (English-Spanish) preferred.
  • Willingness to travel within California.
