Position Overview

The Community Engagement Specialist plays a vital role within Domestic Violence Intervention Services Inc. This position is tasked with overseeing the volunteer program to ensure it aligns with the agency's mission and objectives. The specialist will work to enhance the organization's reputation as a valuable and rewarding volunteer opportunity.

Key Responsibilities

Priority 1: Promoting Equity and Inclusion

  • Recognize and reflect on how various identities can influence workplace dynamics, understanding both advantages and disadvantages. Cultivate awareness and compassion necessary for fostering an equitable and inclusive environment.
  • Develop an inclusive atmosphere where clients and staff feel valued, respected, and safe, regardless of their cultural backgrounds.
Priority 2: Volunteer Program Oversight
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and assess volunteers with support from other team members as required.
  • Regularly update the volunteer manual to reflect policy changes and new information.
  • Organize monthly meetings for volunteers, including scheduling educational speakers to fulfill training requirements.
  • Draft and distribute a monthly newsletter to keep volunteers informed.
  • Coordinate community volunteer initiatives, including partnerships with local organizations.
  • Manage all aspects of seasonal programs, including volunteer sign-ups and holiday initiatives.
Priority 3: Documentation and Reporting
  • Compile monthly reports detailing the contributions of volunteers to the agency.
  • Maintain comprehensive records for all volunteers to comply with accreditation and funding requirements.
Priority 4: Additional Departmental Support
  • Assist with social media content related to volunteer needs and donations.
  • Collaborate with the education coordinator for community outreach presentations.
  • Screen donation inquiries and maintain inventory for donations.
Other Responsibilities: Provide additional support to further the department's and organization's objectives. The organization reserves the right to modify duties as necessary.

Supervisory Role: Responsible for overseeing volunteers.

Fiscal Responsibility: Ensure responsible management of organizational resources.

Confidentiality: Safeguard sensitive information pertaining to the organization and its clients.

Collaboration: Engage with staff at all levels and external partners.

Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date client files according to agency standards.

Meetings and Training: Participate in required meetings and training sessions.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.

Experience: Background in nonprofit work, training, crisis intervention, and strong interpersonal skills preferred.

Skills and Abilities: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; knowledge of social justice issues, particularly related to domestic violence and equity; excellent organizational and communication skills; ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment; commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Schedule: Availability during standard business hours with occasional extended hours required.
