About the Department of Child Services:

The Department of Child Services (DCS) actively engages with children who have experienced abuse or neglect and supports families through services aimed at family preservation and support. The Department also oversees foster care, child support, and family preservation services across Indiana. You will work tirelessly to achieve permanency for children and families through reunification, guardianship, adoption, or by aiding youth in their transition to adulthood. Role Overview:

As a Child Services Assistant, you will perform essential clerical and administrative support tasks within a Local Office of the Indiana Department of Child Services (DCS).

Key Responsibilities:

The primary responsibilities of this role include:

  • Maintaining various files, updating case files as new information is received, ensuring that all documentation is organized and compliant with record retention policies.
  • Preparing reports that involve data tabulation and basic arithmetic calculations.
  • Responding to inquiries via telephone or in person regarding regulations or procedures within your specialized area.
  • Receiving and preparing responses to routine correspondence.
  • Operating office equipment relevant to your specific duties.

Qualifications for Success:

To be considered for this position, you must meet the following qualifications:

  • Familiarity with administrative procedures specific to the role.
  • Understanding of DCS procedures related to data gathering and report preparation.
  • Ability to communicate tactfully with individuals over the phone and in person.
  • Capability to make clerical decisions regarding appropriate procedures within the program area.
  • Proficiency in computer software systems and data entry methods.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations.
  • Capacity to maintain confidentiality of records.
  • Knowledge of legal policies and procedures relevant to DCS child welfare.
