Position Overview:

The Tax Compliance Analyst I plays a crucial role in ensuring adherence to all IRS and California Non-resident Alien (NRA) sales tax regulations. This position is responsible for the preparation and submission of quarterly and year-end California and federal NRA tax forms, while also providing essential guidance on NRA and sales tax matters to the Getty community. Furthermore, the Tax Compliance Analyst prepares and files all necessary 1099 and 1042 forms.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and submit California & IRS NRA quarterly and annual tax returns, ensuring accurate monitoring of federal and state withholdings and making necessary payments.
  • Oversee the preparation and filing of all 1099 and 1042 forms.
  • Evaluate payments routed for processing, ensuring accurate tax liability assessments and providing necessary reporting and withholding instructions.
  • Verify vendor information for accuracy and appropriate tax classification related to withholding and sales and use tax.
  • Maintain comprehensive NRA vendor and tax files, including ITIN applications in Glacier NRA software, and apply for ITINs on behalf of NRA grant recipients, consultants, and entertainers. Act as the liaison with the IRS ITIN division.
  • Coordinate the annual tax workshop for scholars.
  • Serve as the primary resource for program personnel regarding NRA and sales tax inquiries.
  • Provide training for staff and participate in NRA and sales tax seminars.
  • Review and confirm tax information for eligibility under tax treaties.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in tax accounting.
  • Familiarity with Federal and State tax regulations concerning compensatory and non-compensatory payments to non-resident aliens, as well as non-resident alien tax issues.
  • Experience with tax treaties is advantageous.
  • Certification as an IRS Certifying Acceptance Agent and as a SEVIS responsible party is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in computer applications, including office software, email, and financial reporting systems.
