CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICER / PHYSICIAN POSITION SUMMARY

The Chief Medical Officer is accountable for the overall medical direction and clinical excellence of our healthcare services, adhering to the standards set forth by relevant laws, regulations, and organizational policies. This role emphasizes a patient-centered approach and requires collaboration with all departments and stakeholders to ensure the delivery of high-quality care to our patient demographic. The Chief Medical Officer acts as the primary Physician and health authority as mandated by national standards, providing comprehensive oversight for clinical services to guarantee the appropriate provision of medical care.

CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICER / PHYSICIAN SCHEDULE

  • Full-Time Position

CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICER / PHYSICIAN MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduation from an accredited medical institution
  • Valid medical license to practice in the state of Georgia
  • Current DEA Registration
  • Preferred board certification or eligibility in a primary care specialty (Family Medicine, Internal Medicine) with administrative experience in correctional or managed healthcare
  • Proficiency in the English language, encompassing reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension.
  • A collaborative team player who exemplifies teamwork and the team concept.
  • Ability to make independent decisions when necessary.
  • Skilled in tactfully interacting with personnel, family members, visitors, government representatives, and the general public.
  • Possess leadership and supervisory capabilities, fostering harmonious collaboration with and oversight of other staff members.

CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICER / PHYSICIAN ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Consult with community medical providers to address service delivery challenges.
  • Oversee the clinical services provided by both professional and support staff.
  • Ensure availability for on-call services.
  • Review and endorse clinical protocols, policies, procedures, and emergency medical plans on an annual basis.
  • Manage referrals to external healthcare facilities, ensuring appropriateness, quality, and continuity of care.
  • Facilitate the sponsorship of Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners in accordance with state regulations for correctional facilities.
  • Serve as a resource for all staff Physicians and relevant clinical personnel at the facility.
  • Assist in the recruitment, evaluation, and hiring of healthcare providers.
  • Participate in training sessions and professional development activities.
  • Represent the healthcare program in discussions with local community groups or visiting officials as needed.
  • Attend required medical, clinical, and other relevant meetings.
  • Complete necessary sick call, chronic care, and infirmary care duties.
  • Document all patient interactions in their medical records.
  • Ensure all documentation is timely, legible, and appropriately signed.
  • Ensure that all verbal or telephone orders are countersigned as mandated.
  • Adhere to the approved formulary for therapeutic regimens prior to utilizing non-formulary procedures.
  • Review all non-formulary requests to ensure proper documentation of relevant observations and treatment conclusions.
  • Utilize available in-house resources for treatment and resolution of identified issues before resorting to off-site referrals.
  • Provide emergency care on-site and respond appropriately to urgent or emergency situations.
  • Redefine industry benchmarks through core values, strong partnerships, effective clinical practices, and innovative healthcare strategies.
  • Maintain competence in basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation and AED usage.
  • Follow evidence-based medical care standards through adherence to established policies and procedures.
