Pharmacy Access Coordinator

Position Overview:

Under the supervision of the clinical pharmacist and the Assistant Vice President of Clinical Pharmacy, the Pharmacy Benefits Navigator plays a crucial role in facilitating drug access for patients at OU Health. This position is essential in addressing various barriers such as prior authorizations, copay assistance, and delivery coordination. Typically, this role is filled by a seasoned retail pharmacy technician who is committed to providing personalized service to patients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Exhibit exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Foster effective working relationships and maintain clear communication with pharmacy personnel.
  • Prioritize patient care above all else.
  • Assist in enrolling patients in OU Health's specialty pharmacy initiatives.
  • Collect necessary information to facilitate successful prior authorization submissions to insurance providers.
  • Navigate copay assistance programs and grant funding options to enhance drug affordability.
  • Act as a liaison among pharmacy, healthcare providers, and patients to streamline drug access.
  • Offer support for medication adherence.
  • Escalate clinical concerns to the clinical or specialty pharmacist as needed.
  • Build rapport with patients through friendly and efficient service.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently and manage time effectively to fulfill workload requirements.
  • Apply cultural sensitivity and understanding when interacting with diverse patient populations.

General Duties:

Perform additional tasks as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: A high school diploma or GED is required. A current Oklahoma licensed technician permit is preferred, along with national certification. A minimum of four years of pharmacy experience is preferred.

Experience: No prior experience is necessary, as this position allows for on-the-job training.

Licensure/Certifications: An active permit as a Pharmacy Technician from the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy is required, or the ability to obtain one within 90 days of employment. BLS certification and an Immunization Administration Certificate are preferred. If the technician possesses an Immunization Administration Certification, BLS certification will be mandatory.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Basic proficiency in computer and mathematical skills.
  • Detail-oriented approach to ensure accuracy in data and information.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to comprehend and interpret written materials and instructions accurately.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office is preferred.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Experience with EMR documentation is preferred.
