Facilities Maintenance Technician

Position Summary: The Facilities Maintenance Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the upkeep and functionality of our buildings within the Episcopal Homes of MN campus. This position is ideal for individuals who are passionate about contributing to a mission-driven organization. The technician will be involved in a wide range of maintenance tasks, requiring a solid understanding of carpentry, electrical systems, HVAC, plumbing, mechanical repairs, painting, flooring, and general upkeep. Reporting to the maintenance supervisor, the technician will collaborate with the team to assess repair needs, perform maintenance tasks, and uphold safety standards while adhering to company protocols.

Compensation and Work Schedule:

  • Hourly wage: $23-$26, commensurate with experience
  • Full-time position (40 hours/week, 8 hours per day, with varying scheduled days)
  • Participation in on-call rotation for weekends and holidays

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure a safe and secure environment across all facilities.
  • Collaborate with the Maintenance Supervisor to evaluate repair requirements and estimate completion times.
  • Assist in monitoring the performance of service contractors and maintenance personnel.
  • Help maintain inventory and procure maintenance supplies.
  • Support the execution of Preventative Maintenance plans and protocols.
  • Complete assigned maintenance work orders promptly and accurately.
  • Be available for emergency calls and special projects as directed.
  • Work one weekend every six to eight weeks, with other days off as compensation.
  • Request necessary materials and tools for job completion.
  • Document preventive maintenance activities and ensure compliance.
  • Participate in construction, installation, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Perform maintenance tasks in areas such as carpentry, electrical work, plumbing, and painting without requiring permits.
  • Utilize new equipment safely and effectively.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred; ongoing education in maintenance practices is encouraged.
  • Familiarity with regulations and standards relevant to senior care facilities.
  • HVAC or related trade certifications are advantageous.

Experience and Competencies:

Candidates should possess strong skills in maintenance and repair, particularly in HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, and electrical work. A minimum of three to five years of relevant experience in building maintenance or related fields is preferred, although we are willing to train the right individual.

Technical Proficiency: Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel, and possess effective communication skills. Strong customer service and interpersonal abilities are essential.

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands of this role include the ability to lift up to 75 lbs, maintain mobility in various positions, and work in diverse environmental conditions. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in a Long-term Care Residence or similar environment is preferred.
