Position Overview

The Division of Student Affairs at American University is in search of an undergraduate student to assist with the operations of the Market Food Pantry program. This initiative aims to address food insecurity among students, working closely with the Student Engagement team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain pantry inventory by stocking shelves and preparing weekly and monthly reports, alerting the Coordinator for Student Support regarding low stock levels.
  • Organize and manage pantry client data, monitoring food distribution effectively.
  • Update and verify community resources to disseminate to students in need through appropriate channels.
  • Support pantry distribution events, including both drive-thru and in-person operations.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of Market Pantry events, whether virtual or in-person.
  • Facilitate deliveries from food suppliers to ensure adequate pantry stock.
  • Collaborate with the Coordinator to enhance the Market's social media presence, particularly on Instagram.
  • Engage with campus organizations to promote the Market and develop partnerships for special initiatives.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to small groups or at the request of stakeholders.
  • Collect donations from designated locations across campus.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to all pantry users.
  • Undertake additional projects as assigned.

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while assisting with food stocking.
  • Capability to lift items weighing up to 50 lbs.

Candidate Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal and organizational skills, along with effective communication abilities.
  • Engaging and compassionate demeanor.
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and adhere to deadlines.
  • Experience in service or volunteer work is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word.
  • Integrity, honesty, and a commitment to confidentiality.

Work Schedule:

  • 8-10 hours per week.

Compensation:

  • $17.50 per hour.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High School Diploma.
  • At least 6 months of relevant work or volunteer experience.

Additional Information:

  • This position is exclusively available to enrolled students at American University.
