Position Overview

The Biomarker Development (BMD) division at Novartis BioMedical Research is in search of a Molecular Imaging Specialist to enhance our Clinical Imaging & Analytics team. This role involves providing strategic, scientific, technical, and operational guidance on the effective application of imaging in pharmaceutical development.

This position offers a comprehensive perspective on various molecules as they progress from research phases to early development and eventually to Ph2-3 trials. By establishing imaging endpoints, you will gain unique insights into other essential biomarkers (both soluble and genetic), facilitating the identification of distinct patient populations and innovative efficacy and safety assessments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as an internal authority in PET/SPECT and Molecular Imaging, particularly in the context of clinical trials.
  • Collaborate with Oncology and General Medicine teams to formulate and implement a tailored imaging strategy.
  • Integrate imaging into clinical trials to provide vital insights regarding patient eligibility, efficacy, safety, and mechanisms of action.
  • Work alongside internal operational teams and external contract research organizations (CRO) to execute imaging readouts.
  • Ensure the timely and quality execution of imaging trials, providing critical insights for drug development decisions while remaining adaptable to clinical teams throughout the design, execution, and interpretation phases.
  • Develop and maintain a network of external experts, synthesizing optimal inputs tailored to specific protocols.
  • Collaborate with Research teams to spearhead translational imaging studies.
  • Advance molecular imaging and ligand development from late preclinical stages to clinical application.
  • Identify and/or create innovative imaging techniques and endpoints for incorporation into clinical trials.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD, MD, or MD/PhD with a minimum of 3 years of experience for Principal Scientist II (1-2 years for Principal Scientist I) in PET/SPECT Imaging, with a preference for industrial experience in clinical trials and translational research.
  • Technical expertise in PET and SPECT for both preclinical and clinical evaluations.
  • Experience in clinical Radioligand/Radiopharmaceutical Therapy (RLT/RPT) is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in Radiochemistry and novel ligand development from laboratory to clinical settings is a plus.
  • Familiarity with regulatory submissions, first-in-human (FIH) studies, dosimetry, and receptor occupancy of molecular ligands is beneficial.
  • Understanding of clinical trial design, endpoint statistics, and clinical data management is a plus.
  • Project management experience, particularly with imaging CROs, and knowledge of site operations, budgets, and multisite trials is advantageous.
  • A proactive, self-driven, and independent work style, with experience in multidisciplinary teams and an understanding of broader organizational objectives.
