Role Responsibilities

The Pathology Customer Service Representative serves as the primary point of contact for our clients. This role is essential in advocating for clients, assisting with problem resolution, communicating patient test outcomes, and managing laboratory information. Key responsibilities include generating and distributing reports, notifying clients of Critical and Toxic Values, processing add-on requests, reviewing requisitions, supporting the billing department, and engaging in division problem-solving and process enhancement. All duties are performed with a focus on the specific needs of the patient populations served.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Address inquiries regarding test results, AP slides and blocks, testing requirements, and report statuses.
  • Maintain reference materials to ensure prompt responses to client inquiries.
  • May perform Medical Laboratory Assistant duties as needed.
  • Adhere to current guidelines for incoming calls and requisition assessments.
  • Provide detailed responses to inquiries, accept patient and client complaints, and resolve both routine and complex issues; seek assistance when necessary.
  • Engage in problem-solving by gathering information, reporting outcomes, and suggesting process improvements.
  • Participate in special projects or assignments as required.
  • Act as a client advocate to assist with their needs and represent the department positively.
  • Communicate effectively and utilize division communication tools, including Corrective Action QA Logs.
  • Review requisitions for order accuracy.
  • Assess new and existing policies and procedures according to established protocols and assist in developing new guidelines.
  • Ensure accuracy in information received from referring physicians by cross-referencing with existing patient data; correct and document information as necessary.
  • Evaluate the necessity of merge functions and apply credits to tests when appropriate.
  • Resolve specimen and requisition issues and implement necessary corrections.

Qualifications

Educational Background:

  • High School Diploma or GED

Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a healthcare environment, with practical knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory information systems.
