Key Responsibilities:

The Pathology Customer Service Representative serves as the primary point of contact for clients within the department. This role advocates for clients by addressing their concerns, communicating patient test outcomes, and providing laboratory information. Responsibilities encompass generating and distributing reports, notifying critical and toxic values, managing add-on requests, reviewing requisitions, assisting the billing department, and engaging in division problem-solving and process enhancement. All duties are performed with sensitivity to the age and developmental needs of the patient populations served.

  • Respond to inquiries regarding test results, AP slides and blocks, test requirements, and report statuses.
  • Maintain reference materials to ensure prompt responses to client questions.
  • May undertake MLA duties as needed.
  • Adhere to current guidelines for incoming calls and requisition assessments.
  • Provide detailed responses to inquiries, accept patient and client complaints, and resolve both routine and complex issues; seek assistance when necessary.
  • Contribute to problem-solving by gathering information, reporting outcomes, and suggesting process improvements.
  • Engage in special projects or assignments as required.
  • Act as a client advocate to assist with their needs, serving as a public relations representative for the department.
  • Communicate effectively and utilize division communication tools efficiently, including Corrective Action QA Logs.
  • Review requisitions for order accuracy.
  • Examine new and existing policies and procedures according to established protocols; assist in developing new policies and procedures.
  • Ensure accuracy in information received from referring physicians by cross-referencing with existing patient data; correct and document information as necessary.
  • Assess the need for merge functions and credit tests when appropriate.
  • Resolve specimen and requisition issues and implement necessary corrections.

Qualifications

Educational Background:

  • High School Diploma or GED

Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a healthcare environment, with practical knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory information systems.
