Key Responsibilities:

The Pathology Customer Service Representative serves as the primary point of contact for our clients. This role advocates for clients by assisting with problem resolution, communicating patient test results, and providing laboratory information. Key responsibilities include generating and distributing reports, notifying critical and toxic values, managing add-on requests, reviewing requisitions, supporting the billing department, and engaging in division problem-solving and process enhancement. All duties are performed with sensitivity to the age and developmental needs of the patient populations served.

  • Respond to inquiries regarding test results, anatomical pathology slides and blocks, testing requirements, and report statuses.
  • Maintain reference materials to ensure prompt responses to client inquiries.
  • Perform Medical Laboratory Assistant duties as needed.
  • Adhere to current guidelines for incoming calls and requisition reviews.
  • Provide detailed responses to inquiries, address patient and client complaints, and resolve both routine and complex issues; seek assistance when necessary.
  • Engage in problem-solving by gathering information, reporting outcomes, and suggesting process improvements.
  • Participate in special projects or assignments.
  • Act as a client advocate to address their needs and represent the department positively.
  • Communicate effectively and utilize division communication tools, including Corrective Action QA Logs.
  • Review requisitions for order accuracy.
  • Evaluate and update new and existing policies and procedures according to established protocols; assist in developing new policies and procedures.
  • Ensure accuracy in information received from referring physicians by comparing it to existing patient data; correct and document information as necessary.
  • Assess the need for merge functions and credit tests when appropriate.
  • Resolve specimen and requisition issues and implement necessary corrections.

Qualifications

Educational Background:

  • High School Diploma or GED

Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a healthcare environment, with practical knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory information systems.
