About the Position

The Community Development Director is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the Department of Community Development (DCD) at Kitsap County. This position requires a strategic thinker with excellent leadership and communication skills to drive the department's mission forward.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the DCD team, providing guidance and support to ensure the department's goals and objectives are met.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure effective and efficient service delivery to the community.
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders, including community groups, local government entities, and regional partners, to advance the county's planning and development goals.
  • Provide strategic direction and oversight to the department's various programs and services, including permitting, planning, and environmental services.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, as well as county policies and procedures.
  • Develop and manage the department's budget, ensuring effective use of resources and allocation of funds.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community stakeholders, including residents, businesses, and community organizations.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices, applying knowledge and expertise to drive innovation and improvement within the department.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in public administration, planning, or a related field.
  • 10 years of progressively responsible experience in a public planning position, including 3 years of supervisory and managerial responsibilities.
  • AICP certification and/or Master's degree in public administration or a related field are highly desirable.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and projects.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and strategically.
