Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Development Director to join our team at Youth Guidance. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and managing the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of funders with a focus on corporate, foundation, and government grants.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Fundraising Planning: Develop and implement plans aimed at sustaining and growing current foundation, corporate, and public funder relationships.
  • Community Representation: Represent Youth Guidance to the external community, including community events, partnership meetings, and media opportunities.
  • Relationship Building: Proactive relationship-builder, working collaboratively with program leaders and a local Advisory Council to cultivate local and regional relationships that will sustain and grow Youth Guidance programming.
  • Stewardship and Recognition: Serves as the primary point of contact with current and prospective donors through newsletters, personal visits, phone calls, and personalized acknowledgements to achieve continued donor engagement.
  • Grant Research and Writing: Completes ongoing prospect research (online, databases, clearinghouses, professional literature, and donor prospecting directories) of current and prospective corporate, foundation, and individual donors to identify viable local funding opportunities.
  • Grant Proposal Development: Completes all stages of funding proposal development including outreach to grant-makers, and development of compelling, timely, and error-free letters of inquiry, presentation decks, online applications, formal proposals, and grant reports.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Works collaboratively with program, evaluation, and finance staff in the planning and development of grant proposals, reports, and budgets.
  • Brand Management: Ensures site has high-quality, brand-consistent digital and print collateral materials and positive public relations, with support from the Director of Marketing and Communications.
  • Donor Recognition and Benefits: Ensures the fulfillment of funding partner recognition and benefits (e.g., article in newsletter, acknowledgement in annual report).
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred. Minimum three (3) years of experience and demonstrated track record in development, with experience in youth development, human services, and/or K-12 education sectors preferred.
  • Skills and Abilities: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to present a positive image and communicate effectively via telephone and in person. Highly organized, strategic thinker, with proven ability to handle multiple tasks, handle pressure, and meet deadlines.
  • Core Competencies: Communication, Client Orientation, Equity Mindset, Growth Mindset, Ownership and Quality of Work, Supervisory Skills, Mission Drive.
