Position Overview

(THIS IS A CONTINGENT POSITION)

The Registered Nurse in Crisis Services operates under the guidance of the Charge Nurse, providing essential care to clients in crisis situations. This role involves monitoring patients, administering medications, maintaining accurate records, and collaborating with healthcare professionals while applying the nursing processes of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver nursing care in accordance with the standards and regulations set forth by the state Nurse Practice Act, as well as facility-specific policies.
  • Employ the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for clients and their families.
  • Act as an advocate for clients, ensuring the delivery of individualized, safe, and effective care tailored to the needs of diverse populations.
  • Utilize a client-centered approach to gather comprehensive information regarding patients and their situations.
  • Monitor and document patient behavior and conditions accurately.
  • Conduct physical assessments and diagnostic evaluations.
  • Prepare patients for examinations and treatments, ensuring their comfort and understanding.
  • Administer medications and monitor for potential side effects and adverse reactions.
  • Perform routine medical procedures and maintain thorough documentation in patient records.
  • Operate and oversee medical equipment to ensure proper functioning.
  • Provide education and counseling to patients and their families regarding treatment plans and health management.
  • Document all patient care activities in compliance with organizational standards.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and physicians to determine optimal treatment strategies for patients.
  • Engage in research initiatives aimed at enhancing healthcare practices and improving patient outcomes.
  • Develop, implement, and assess patient care plans in conjunction with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Supervise and mentor licensed practical nurses, nursing assistants, and nursing students.
  • Offer emotional and psychological support to patients and their families.
  • Establish rapport with patients to identify their care needs effectively.
  • Manage nursing supply inventory to ensure adequate resources are available.
  • Enhance professional knowledge through ongoing education and participation in nursing organizations.
  • Contribute to problem-solving efforts for variances from patient care goals.
  • Facilitate communication and coordination of care within a multidisciplinary framework.
  • Gather information regarding Advance Directives and ensure compliance with patient preferences.
  • Participate in the creation of educational materials that promote health and wellness.
  • Collaborate with external agencies to coordinate comprehensive care for patients.
  • Adhere to company policies regarding non-coercive practices.
  • Perform additional related duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with organizational policies and community resources.
  • Understanding of mental health regulations and practices.
  • Proficiency in psychiatric nursing and medication management.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals in crisis situations.
  • Competence in clinical assessment and documentation.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and maintain cultural sensitivity.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program as a Registered Nurse (BSN preferred).
  • Minimum of one year of experience in a behavioral health setting.

Licensure:

  • Current Michigan RN license.
  • Valid Michigan Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record.

Working Conditions:

This role is situated within a crisis care environment, requiring flexibility to work various shifts, including nights and weekends, to meet the needs of patients experiencing mental health or substance use crises.
