The Registered Nurse in Crisis Services operates under the guidance of the Charge Nurse, responsible for monitoring clients, administering medications, maintaining records, collaborating with healthcare professionals, and providing education to clients through the nursing processes of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Delivers nursing care and services in accordance with the standards and scope of nursing practice as defined by state regulations, policies, and facility-specific protocols.
- Employs the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care, while delegating and supervising the care provided to clients and their caregivers.
- Acts as an advocate for clients, utilizing the nursing process to design, deliver, and assess individualized, safe, and age-appropriate care for all clients, including those with complex needs.
- Utilizes a client-centered approach to gather comprehensive information about clients and their circumstances.
- Observes and documents patient behavior accurately.
- Conducts assessments of patients' conditions.
- Performs physical examinations and necessary diagnostic tests.
- Records detailed medical histories and symptoms of patients.
- Prepares patients for examinations and treatments.
- Administers medications and treatments while monitoring patients for any adverse effects or reactions.
- Executes routine procedures (e.g., blood pressure measurements, administering injections) and accurately documents findings in patient records.
- Operates and oversees medical equipment effectively.
- Provides counseling and education to patients and their families regarding treatment plans.
- Documents patient care services thoroughly in departmental records.
- Consults with supervisors and physicians to determine optimal treatment plans for patients.
- Engages in research to enhance healthcare processes and improve patient outcomes.
- Develops, implements, and evaluates patient care plans in collaboration with medical teams.
- Supervises licensed practical nurses, nursing assistants, and nursing students.
- Offers physical and emotional support to patients, their friends, and families.
- Identifies patient care needs by establishing rapport with patients and their families.
- Manages nursing supplies inventory by assessing stock levels.
- Maintains professional knowledge by attending educational workshops and participating in relevant professional organizations.
- Contributes to solutions for variances from client goals and ensures effective implementation of those solutions.
- Facilitates communication and coordination of care within a multidisciplinary team.
- Obtains information regarding Advance Directives, including Mental Healthcare Power of Attorney.
- Participates in the creation of educational curricula that promote health and wellness.
- Collaborates with other provider agencies to coordinate care, assisting participants in achieving wellness, including the completion of recovery-oriented discharge plans.
- Coordinates services with various community health, mental health, and social service agencies to ensure appropriate support for participants.
- Adheres to company policies regarding "No Force First" practices.
- Performs additional related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Familiarity with organizational policies, procedures, and practices.
- Understanding of the provider network and community resources.
- Knowledge of relevant mental health codes and regulations.
- Awareness of state and federal policies related to healthcare.
- Expertise in psychiatric nursing and medication management.
- Ability to manage agitated patients in crisis and their families.
- Proficiency in clinical assessment and documentation.
- Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse (BSN preferred).
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum of one (1) year of full-time paid experience in a behavioral health setting.
Trauma-Informed Care experience is preferred.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid State of Michigan clinical licensure: RN.
- Valid State of Michigan Driver's License with a safe driving record.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS:
- Completion of a Nursing Competency Checklist is required as part of the onboarding process.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This role is situated within the Crisis Care Center, requiring interaction with individuals experiencing mental health or substance abuse crises. The Crisis Care Operations operates 24/7, necessitating a flexible 12-hour work schedule.
