The Registered Nurse – Crisis Services plays a crucial role in the healthcare team, providing essential support to clients in crisis situations. Under the supervision of the Charge Nurse, this position involves monitoring patient conditions, administering necessary medications, maintaining accurate records, and collaborating with healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver nursing care in accordance with established standards and regulations as defined by the state Nurse Practice Act and facility policies.
  • Employ the nursing process—assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation—to provide and document care for clients and their families.
  • Act as an advocate for clients, ensuring the delivery of individualized, safe, and effective care tailored to meet diverse needs.
  • Utilize a client-centered approach to gather relevant information about patients and their circumstances.
  • Monitor and document patient behavior and conditions accurately.
  • Conduct physical assessments and diagnostic evaluations.
  • Prepare patients for examinations and treatments while ensuring comfort and understanding.
  • Administer medications and treatments, closely observing patients for any adverse reactions.
  • Perform routine clinical procedures and maintain thorough documentation in patient records.
  • Operate and oversee medical equipment effectively.
  • Provide education and counseling to patients and their families regarding treatment plans and health management.
  • Document all patient care activities in compliance with organizational policies.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and medical staff to develop optimal treatment strategies for patients.
  • Engage in research initiatives aimed at enhancing healthcare processes and improving patient outcomes.
  • Develop, implement, and assess patient care plans in partnership with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Supervise and mentor nursing staff, including licensed practical nurses and nursing students.
  • Offer emotional and psychological support to patients and their families.
  • Establish rapport with patients to identify their care needs effectively.
  • Manage nursing supply inventory to ensure adequate resources are available.
  • Enhance professional knowledge through participation in educational workshops and professional organizations.
  • Contribute to the resolution of discrepancies in client care goals and ensure the implementation of effective solutions.
  • Facilitate communication and coordination of care within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Gather information regarding Advance Directives as part of patient care planning.
  • Assist in the creation of educational programs that promote health and wellness.
  • Collaborate with community health and social service agencies to coordinate care for participants.
  • Adhere to company policies regarding crisis intervention protocols.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with organizational policies and community resources.
  • Understanding of mental health regulations and practices.
  • Knowledge of psychiatric nursing principles and medication management.
  • Ability to manage crisis situations with patients and their families.
  • Proficiency in clinical assessment and documentation.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.

Required Education:

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program as a Registered Nurse (BSN preferred).

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of one year of full-time experience in a behavioral health setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Trauma Informed Care.

Licensure:

  • Valid State of Michigan Registered Nurse license.
  • Valid State of Michigan Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record.

Special Conditions:

  • Completion of a Nursing Competency Checklist is required during onboarding.

Working Environment:

This role is situated within a crisis care setting, requiring the ability to work with individuals experiencing mental health or substance use crises. The unit operates 24/7, necessitating flexibility in scheduling, including 12-hour shifts.
