Position Summary:
This role is integral to advancing the mission, vision, values, and strategic objectives of the Neighborhood Service Organization. The Crisis Intervention Specialist will engage with individuals facing mental health or substance use emergencies, conducting face-to-face assessments to ascertain the necessary level of care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct in-person Pre-Admission Review (PAR) screenings to evaluate the appropriate level of care for adults in behavioral health crises, emphasizing the least restrictive environment.
- Facilitate communication with diversion resources, including crisis stabilization units and partial hospitalization programs.
- Coordinate care disposition with hospital personnel, such as nurses and social workers.
- Maintain ongoing communication with COPE team leads and dispatch regarding PAR outcomes.
- Complete assigned Pre-Admission Reviews within established timeframes.
- Formulate preliminary DSM-V diagnoses.
- Identify safety concerns, including personal and environmental risks, suicide risk, and community support involvement.
- Gather information for care coordination, including contacts with primary care physicians, previous treatment episodes, and significant support persons.
- Employ motivational interviewing and other engagement techniques to encourage participation in COPE services.
- Utilize knowledge of local behavioral health service networks to assist clients in accessing appropriate services for their medical, psychiatric, and social needs.
- Ensure clients are informed about available support and emergency services.
- Demonstrate the ability to observe, evaluate, accurately document, and report relevant facts.
- Coordinate appointments with COPE programs and services, such as intensive crisis stabilization.
- Arrange transportation for clients to community-based supportive services as necessary.
- Consult with psychiatrists or nurses when identifying non-emergent medical conditions.
Professional Skills Development:
- Maintain an up-to-date understanding of community resources within Wayne County's mental health system.
- Exhibit strong organizational skills and the ability to work with clients presenting various acute needs.
- Meet service timeliness and quality standards consistently.
- Proficiently use word processing, email, internet navigation, and the assigned electronic health record system to support daily operations.
- Document services in accordance with policy and procedure, ensuring legibility and adherence to approved abbreviations.
- Comply with all policies and procedures outlined in the Employer's Policy and Procedure Manual.
- Participate in scheduled meetings and engage in innovative approaches to enhance knowledge and skills.
- Foster collegial relationships with peers, supervisors, and other staff while maintaining professional conduct in the community.
- Report any Recipient Rights complaints or potential complaints to the designated Employer representative within 24 hours.
- Exhibit flexibility within the hospital environment.
- Follow directives from the Program Manager and COPE Team Leads.
- Analyze information, exercise sound judgment, and make independent decisions within designated responsibilities.
- Report to the COPE Team Lead any clinical cases that exceed your expertise or experience.
- Uphold confidentiality in accordance with federal guidelines and Employer policies.
- Adhere to contractual and regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrate critical knowledge of diagnostics using DSM-V, psychopharmacology, and supportive treatment methods for a severely mentally ill adult population.
- Show understanding of the identification and treatment of co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
- Commit to the Recovery Model and a person-centered approach.
Qualifications:
- Master's Degree from an accredited institution in psychology, social work, or counseling.
- Licensure as an LLMSW, LMSW, LP, LLP, LLPC, or LPC in the State of Michigan is required.
- Possession of a valid Michigan driver's license and proof of auto insurance.
