Position: Senior Mechanical Engineering Lead - Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Mechanical Engineering Lead at Middough, you will oversee and manage work activities across various projects. This role entails engaging with clients, taking technical responsibility for mechanical designs, and contributing to overarching project goals within a consulting engineering framework.

Core Responsibilities Include:
  • Collaborate closely with the Mechanical Engineering Manager to strategize and implement mechanical project tasks while optimizing shared resources.
  • Perform design and engineering functions while guiding team members in executing mechanical responsibilities within multidisciplinary design initiatives.
  • Organize, schedule, and direct technical efforts as the mechanical lead on designated projects.
  • Engage with both clients and internal teams to define and deliver design work in alignment with timelines, budgets, and project plans.
  • Evaluate engineering outputs for adherence to engineering standards, principles, and design specifications.
  • Utilize a 3D design environment to formulate mechanical design solutions and lead design model evaluations with client teams.
  • Develop system designs, size equipment, create technical specifications and data sheets, conduct technical bid assessments, and recommend optimal designs that fulfill client needs for functionality, reliability, maintainability, and safety.
  • Lead field observation efforts, perform detailed engineering calculations, verify installations, and engage in problem-solving tasks.
  • Regularly communicate with other engineering disciplines, project managers, client representatives, and suppliers to gather and share relevant project information.
  • Work with clients and project managers to identify scope modifications through established change management protocols.
  • Review technical documentation from vendors/suppliers and provide responses to field construction inquiries.
  • Keep both upstream and downstream team members informed about project execution and planning.
  • Actively mentor and nurture the development of engineering and design personnel.
Qualifications and Skills
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field with relevant experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License (EIT/ET and ability to secure PE) or a master's degree in Engineering or Business is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering.
  • Familiarity with various types of material handling equipment, including pneumatic conveying systems, screw conveyors, mixers, feeders, weighing systems, silos, hoppers, and dust collection systems.
  • Experience with multiple products, particularly in the grain and food consumer sectors, is essential.
  • Knowledge of dust hazard analysis and equipment design compliant with NFPA, ATEX, and OSHA standards.
  • Design experience in a 3D environment using tools such as AutoCAD/Plant3D, SolidWorks, Inventor, Revit, and/or NavisWorks.
  • Experience executing project work as a Project Engineer or Design Team Leader.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain high levels of organization for effective project execution.
  • Preferred understanding and design experience of cogeneration facilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building abilities.
  • Robust analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

  • Regularly utilize close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • May encounter adverse environmental conditions (such as climbing ladders and/or stairs, extreme temperatures, and/or poor air quality) when on-site at client facilities. Noise levels may vary from moderate to high at various client locations, and hearing protection may be required and/or provided. Safety measures will be provided by the client and/or company and must be adhered to.
  • Occasional travel by car or air to other company locations or client sites may be necessary.
  • This position requires the candidate/employee to possess and maintain a valid driver's license in their state of residence.
