Position Overview

Otsuka America Pharmaceutical, Inc. is implementing an innovative customer engagement strategy aimed at enhancing the experience of patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals (HCPs) in a dynamic healthcare landscape. This new framework focuses on local care delivery, striving to elevate the quality of service provided to all stakeholders involved in patient care.

Strategic Ecosystem Approach

The 'ecosystem approach' fosters collaboration among account management, medical teams, patient access, and market access to effectively engage local healthcare systems. This initiative seeks to uncover opportunities that can significantly enhance the patient experience. Customers will benefit from a more coordinated and seamless care journey, supported by digital tools designed to bridge care gaps.

Role of the Health Science Advisor

In this evolved customer engagement model, the Health Science Advisor (HSA) will interact with HCPs using a mix of in-person, virtual, and digital communication methods. The HSA will provide comprehensive insights regarding products and the approved conditions they address. Additionally, Otsuka's Clinical and Scientific Specialists (CSS) will be available to deliver in-depth clinical knowledge on-demand, offering tailored education on disease states, thought leadership, and real-world evidence.

Regional Leadership

These ecosystems are managed by Ecosystem Leads, organized into regional segments. Regional Leads possess the autonomy to evaluate specific market needs and tailor decisions to align with local customer requirements. Otsuka is committed to enhancing customer engagement quality, accountability, and the synergy between patients and healthcare providers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Proactive Outreach: Engage HCPs on various topics, including product access, on-label information, and established patient care guidelines.
  • Customer Engagement: Utilize diverse virtual and digital tools to connect with customers, ensuring their requests are fulfilled and gathering feedback on engagement quality.
  • Thought Leadership: Organize and facilitate speaker programs and local provider discussions to share experiences and outcomes.
  • Business Planning: Provide insights and feedback to the ecosystem lead, contributing to the development of local strategies and business objectives.

Qualifications
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in pharmaceutical or medical device sales.
  • Residence within a commutable distance of the primary city in the sales territory.

Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Experience in commercial life sciences or related industries, engaging with key healthcare ecosystem players.
  • 4 or more years of experience in a sales role with HCPs, ideally across multiple products in a complex healthcare environment.
  • Clinical nurse or Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) experience is highly regarded.
  • Ability to navigate an evolving and ambiguous environment.
  • Proven track record in coaching and mentoring peers to achieve their goals.
  • Demonstrated success in meeting or exceeding financial and qualitative targets.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate complex clinical information effectively.
  • Knowledge of operational issues in healthcare product delivery, including reimbursement and supply chain management.
