New York, New York, United States Community Access Inc Full time
Position Overview

Community Access Inc., established in 1974, is a trailblazer in providing supportive housing and social services in New York City for individuals facing mental health challenges. We are dedicated to advocating for human rights, social equity, and economic opportunities for all. We believe that individuals are the foremost authorities on their own lives. Our diverse programs span across 25 locations, offering over 1200 units of supportive housing across three boroughs, alongside initiatives such as the Howie the Harp Advocacy Center, East Village Access—a PROS program, Peer-driven Crisis Respite Center, Adult Home Initiative, and Assertive Community Treatment (ACT).

Department Insight

The Residential Crisis Support Program, commonly referred to as the Crisis Respite Center, serves as a short-term, peer-staffed alternative to psychiatric hospitalization within a homely environment. Our mission is to foster a warm, welcoming, and supportive atmosphere where guests—referred to as participants—can acquire new recovery and relapse prevention skills. This is facilitated through 24-hour peer support, education in self-advocacy, self-help training, and mutual understanding. The program provides individuals undergoing a psychiatric or emotional crisis with a temporary stay (ranging from 14 to 28 days) that enables them to maintain daily routines and connect with community-based services and supports.

Core Values

All staff, interns, and volunteers at Community Access Inc. are expected to comprehend and embody certain principles in their work and interactions with program participants. These principles include:

  • The right of program participants to self-determination.
  • Respectful and clear communication.
  • Services that promote recovery and healing, honoring each participant's cultural background, experiences, identity, and values.
  • Establishing clear professional boundaries to support the limits and possibilities of services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engaging with guests on a one-on-one basis.
  • Facilitating workshops.
  • Documenting progress notes.
  • Assisting with meal preparation.
  • Supporting guest rooms and general housekeeping tasks.
  • Accompanying guests on community tasks, appointments, and outings.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.
  • Learning and executing all aspects of the admission process.

This position description reflects the essential functions assigned by management; it does not limit or prescribe the tasks that may be assigned.
