Our pioneering methodology enables rapid prototyping, testing, and iterative learning on reactor designs, allowing us to tackle a wide range of applications from remote environments to deep-sea vehicles and even lunar energy needs.

Why Join Us?
We are on a mission that demands a diverse set of skills, a proactive attitude, and resilience. If you are passionate about the potential of abundant energy and its impact on improving lives, we would love to connect with you.

Role Overview:
We are seeking a full-time Computational Physicist at our facility to focus on kinetic modeling of fusion plasma, particularly through Particle-in-Cell (PIC) simulations. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing multi-physics computational models that simulate plasma processes within our fusion devices, influencing critical reactor design decisions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the advancement of WarpX PIC code in collaboration with research institutions to model the physics of our fusion reactors.
  • Develop reduced plasma models, including bounce-averaged Fokker-Planck equations and dispersion relations.
  • Utilize simulations and theoretical predictions to guide device and experimental design, enhancing scientific understanding.
  • Collaborate closely with experimental teams during test campaigns to validate computational findings.
  • Publish research in peer-reviewed journals and present findings at relevant conferences.
  • Participate in simulation planning to optimize campaign strategies aimed at maximizing fusion reaction rates.
  • Contribute to code development, performance benchmarking, and reliability assessments.
  • Occasionally travel for conferences and team-building events.
Candidate Profile:
  • PhD in Engineering or Physics with a focus on computational and theoretical aspects of PIC modeling.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in the development or application of PIC codes.
  • Strong foundational knowledge of plasma physics, molecular gas dynamics, transport phenomena, and electromagnetic principles.
  • Experience with PIC software such as VSIM or WarpX.
  • Proficiency in MatLab or Python for modeling and data analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to think critically and adapt quickly to new concepts.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with multi-physics modeling software like COMSOL.
  • Hands-on experience with ultra-high vacuum plasma systems.
  • Knowledge of CAD software.
  • Experience with fusion experiments and ion traps.
  • Proven success in projects that require a design-build-test approach and innovative problem-solving.
  • Comfort in modeling interactions with reactor walls.
What We Offer:
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision benefits with full premium coverage.
  • Generous paid time off including holidays and vacation.
  • A collaborative and supportive team environment.
  • Opportunities for professional growth through exposure to diverse challenges.
  • Regular team meals and well-stocked kitchen facilities.
  • Equity opportunities in the form of stock options.
Avalanche Fusion values diversity and is committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. We encourage individuals from all backgrounds to apply and contribute to our mission of delivering fusion energy to the world.
