About the Opportunity:

We are in search of a Senior Plasma Scientist to join our Seattle-based team. This role involves collaborating with our engineers and researchers to enhance our proprietary fusion reactor technology, including ion sources, electrodes, and high-voltage dielectric components. Your expertise will be crucial in conducting experiments, deriving insights, and guiding the team through the scientific process.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the development of plasma experiments within our testing facilities.
  • Design and execute analyses on reactor configurations, focusing on fusion energy, Bremsstrahlung, and various loss mechanisms.
  • Develop and specify the instrumentation and metrology tools necessary for experiments.
  • Contribute to Avalanche's scientific publications and assist in regulatory and outreach initiatives.
  • Participate in conferences and company events as needed.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Physics, Engineering, or a closely related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of post-doctoral experience.
  • Proven experience in the design, procurement, and analysis of plasma experiments.
  • In-depth knowledge of plasma diagnostic tools and instrumentation.
  • Strong background in experimental data analysis.
  • Familiarity with positive ion source technologies and methodologies.
  • Experience in a multidisciplinary research setting.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with high-energy plasma systems.
  • Proficiency in plasma simulation software, including Particle-in-Cell (PIC) methods.
  • Background in the fusion energy sector.
  • Experience with COMSOL and finite element analysis.
