Role Overview:

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is in search of a Machinist 4. This role is integral to the Sentinel program.

Key Responsibilities:

This position entails machining components according to specifications by setting up and operating CNC machinery. The Machinist is accountable for:

  • Ensuring product quality through in-process and final inspections.
  • Maintaining and caring for the equipment.
  • Ensuring tooling and materials are ready for use.
  • Upholding a clean and safe working environment.

This role requires the individual to train others in all facets of CNC equipment setup, operation, and maintenance. Responsibilities include adhering to daily tool control protocols and conducting toolbox inventories at the start and end of each shift. The Machinist will set up and operate various machine tools, including lathes, milling machines, shapers, planers, and precision grinders, to manufacture metal parts and mechanisms to precise tolerances and dimensions.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Possessing comprehensive knowledge of the machinist role.
  • Understanding the general and detailed aspects of the job and their practical applications.
  • Receiving limited supervision and providing guidance to lower-level employees.
  • Resolving most inquiries and referring complex issues to higher levels.
  • Maintaining frequent contact with individuals from other departments and external organizations.

This position typically follows a 9/80 work schedule, allowing employees to work nine-hour days from Monday to Thursday and take every other Friday off. Competitive relocation assistance may also be available.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent with 6 years of additional education and/or related experience.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.
  • Experience in operating manual machines and performing setups.
  • Proficiency in using common shop hand tools and cordless drill motors.
  • Ability to assemble parts and assemblies using standard hand tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience as a CNC programmer and familiarity with NX software.
  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles.
  • Experience with 3/5 axis CNC and HAAS control.
  • Ability to manually program CNCs from 2D drawings.
  • Familiarity with G code.
  • Demonstrated capability to address unforeseen machining challenges.
  • Willingness to work overtime and weekends as necessary.
  • Strong understanding of materials selection and machining processes.

Salary Range: $59,300 - $98,800

This salary range serves as a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers various factors when determining base salary offers, including the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills, and current market conditions.
