Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Principal or Sr. Principal Manufacturing Engineer. This role is based in Roy, UT and supports the Sentinel program.

Key Responsibilities:


Become a member of the Deployment & Manufacturing Engineering team for Sentinel and contribute to engineering solutions aimed at deploying and delivering a cutting-edge weapon system to our client.

This role demands a highly driven self-starter with expertise in the fabrication, assembly, system integration, deployment, and testing of engineered products.

The selected candidate will engage in all engineering tasks supporting the deployment of critical systems for the Sentinel program.

This encompasses, but is not limited to, collaborating with suppliers to formulate a compliant Manufacturing Plan, conducting Manufacturing Readiness Assessment (MRA) events, engineering solutions for product deployment and installation, creating Bills of Materials, developing work and installation instructions, supporting system design, and tool design.

The candidate will exhibit outstanding organizational and interpersonal skills, capable of managing a variety of tasks proactively, being task-oriented, and communicating effectively with various levels of Government, NGC, and Supplier personnel.


The candidate will provide advanced technological insights and Subject Matter Expertise (SME) to address technical inquiries and ensure adherence to the Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) Statement of Work (SOW) requirements.

Primary responsibilities will include offering technical and administrative leadership and guidance to the various program Integrated Product Team (IPT) cohorts and Suppliers in support of:

Production documentation and data

Build/Buy

Assembly, installation, and work instructions

Specialty Tooling design, development, and production in support of field installation activities

Team liaison and SME for engineering support during field activities

Additional Responsibilities:
Act as the organization's technical representative, engaging with senior personnel on significant technical matters, facilitating inter-team coordination, and reinforcing leadership's vision and objectives.

Develop processes by analyzing requirements; research, design, modify, and test production/deployment methods and equipment.

Collaborate with Design Engineering on design to ensure practical manufacturing and fabrication solutions.

Coordinate with integration teams on daily activities; resolve complex process challenges.

Work with suppliers to establish manufacturing planning for successful preparation and execution of MRAs.

Research and assess commercially available tools and equipment to support deployment activities.

Investigate root causes of discrepancies and implement corrective measures.

Troubleshoot existing processes to enhance safety, quality, cost, and efficiency.

Develop and maintain detailed work and installation instructions for assigned products/processes.

Educate/train operators on new and existing processes.

Establish and maintain a program project plan and schedule that aligns with the program Integrated Master Schedule (IMS).

Provide on-site engineering support during field installations.

Deliver advanced technological insights and Subject Matter Expertise (SME) to resolve technical inquiries and ensure compliance with the Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) Statement of Work (SOW) requirements.

Implement Lean practices to continuously identify opportunities for improvement.

This position's standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.

Qualifications:

Principal Manufacturing Engineer:

Bachelor's Degree in Science with 5 years of relevant work experience; Master's Degree with 3 years of relevant work experience; or PhD with 0 years of experience.

4 additional years of experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree.

Sr

Principal Manufacturing Engineer:

Bachelor's Degree in Science with 9 years of relevant work experience; Master's Degree with 7 years of relevant work experience; or PhD with 4 years of experience.

4 additional years of experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree.

Required for Both Levels:
Must be a U.S. Citizen and have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.

Must have the ability to obtain Special Program Access (SAP).

Experience with Design Reviews, Process Control Documentation, Work Instructions, and Bills of Materials.

Experience with Mechanical/Electrical Drawings.

Experience with Siemens NX/CPLM or similar tools and Manufacturing Execution System (MES).

Experience using Microsoft Office Products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, MS-Project).

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM).

For an engineering discipline, it is preferred to have:
Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Aerospace, or similar.

Active DoD Secret Security Clearance or higher awarded or reviewed in the last 6 years.

Experience integrating design into production and deploying engineering solutions to the field.

Previous experience in production for a military program.

Previous experience on EMD projects.

Previous experience on high-rate production military programs.

Experience with Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBM).

Understanding of Manufacturing Readiness Assessments and establishing Manufacturing Readiness Levels per DoD customer requirements.

Prior experience developing and designing tooling for field work and installations.

Understanding of tooling, work instructions, and visual aids.

Demonstrated experience working in a Model-Based Manufacturing digital environment.

Demonstrated Project Management experience.

Experience resolving manufacturing process issues & training operators on new processes.

Salary Range:
$84,200 - $126,400

Salary Range 2:
$104,400 - $156,600


The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills, and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
