Position Overview:

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is on the lookout for a Machinist 4. This role is situated in Roy, UT and is integral to the Sentinel program.

Key Responsibilities:

This position entails machining components according to specifications by setting up and operating CNC machinery. The Machinist is accountable for:

  • Ensuring product quality through in-process and final inspections.
  • Maintaining and caring for the equipment.
  • Ensuring tooling and materials are ready for use.
  • Upholding a clean and safe working environment.

This role requires the individual to train others in all facets of CNC equipment setup, operation, and maintenance. Responsibilities also include:

  • Adhering to daily tool control protocols.
  • Setting up and operating various machine tools, including lathes, milling machines, shapers, planers, and precision grinders to manufacture metal components to precise tolerances.
  • Interpreting blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications to determine operational sequences and setups.
  • Utilizing a range of machinist hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
  • Making standard shop calculations related to work dimensions, tooling, feeds, and speeds.
  • Measuring, marking, and scribing dimensions to lay out stock for machining.
  • Fitting and assembling precision components into mechanical systems.
  • Monitoring and verifying quality in line with statistical process controls.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Possessing comprehensive knowledge of the machinist role.
  • Understanding both general and detailed aspects of the job and their practical applications.
  • Receiving limited supervision with no instructions needed for routine tasks.
  • Assisting in the orientation, training, and oversight of lower-level employees.
  • Resolving most inquiries and problems independently.
  • Maintaining frequent contact with individuals from other departments or external organizations.

This position follows a standard work schedule of a 9/80 format, allowing employees to enjoy every other Friday off. Competitive relocation assistance may also be available.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent with 6 years of additional education and/or related experience.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.
  • Experience operating manual machines and performing setups.
  • Ability to work in a standing position for extended periods.
  • Capability to lift or move a minimum weight for up to 12 hours per day.
  • Proficiency in using common shop hand tools and cordless drill motors.
  • Experience in assembling parts and assemblies using standard hand tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience as a CNC programmer and familiarity with NX software.
  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles.
  • Experience with 3/5 axis CNC and HAAS control.
  • Ability to manually program CNCs from 2D drawings.
  • Familiarity with G code.
  • Demonstrated capability to resolve unique machining challenges.
  • Availability for overtime and weekend work as needed.
  • Strong understanding of materials selection and machining processes.

Salary Range: $59,300 - $98,800

This salary range serves as a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers various factors when determining base salary offers, including the position's scope and responsibilities, as well as the candidate's experience, education, skills, and current market conditions.
