Position Overview:
Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is in search of a Machinist 4. This role is situated in Roy, UT and supports the Sentinel program.
Key Responsibilities:
This position entails machining components according to specifications by setting up and operating CNC machinery. The Machinist is accountable for:
- Ensuring product quality through in-process and final inspections.
- Maintaining and caring for equipment.
- Assuring readiness of tooling and materials.
- Upholding a clean and safe work environment.
This role requires the individual to train others in all facets of CNC equipment setup, operation, and maintenance. Responsibilities include adhering to daily tool control protocols and conducting toolbox inventories at the start and end of each shift. The Machinist will set up and operate various machine tools, including lathes, milling machines, shapers, planers, and precision grinders, to manufacture metal components to precise tolerances and specifications.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Possessing comprehensive knowledge of the machinist role.
- Understanding both general and detailed aspects of the job and their practical applications.
- Working under limited supervision with minimal instructions for routine tasks.
- Assisting in orienting, training, and overseeing the work of junior employees.
- Resolving most inquiries and issues independently.
- Maintaining frequent contact with individuals from other departments and external organizations.

This position follows a standard work schedule of a 9/80 format, allowing employees to work nine-hour days from Monday to Thursday and take every other Friday off. Competitive relocation assistance may also be offered.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent, with 6 years of additional education and/or related experience.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.
- Experience operating manual machines and performing setups.
- Ability to utilize common shop hand tools and cordless drill motors.
- Capability to assemble parts and assemblies using standard hand tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience as a CNC programmer and familiarity with NX software.
- Knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles.
- Experience with 3/5 axis CNC operations and HAAS control.
- Ability to manually program CNCs from 2D drawings.
- Experience with G code.
- Proven ability to resolve unique machining challenges.
- Willingness to work overtime and weekends as needed.
- Strong understanding of materials selection and machining processes.
Salary Range: $59,300 - $98,800. This range serves as a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers various factors when determining salary offers, including the position's scope and responsibilities, as well as the candidate's experience, education, skills, and current market conditions.
