Position Overview

The role of the Senior Reinsurance Accountant involves key responsibilities within the reinsurance department, focusing on financial reporting and compliance. The individual will play a vital role in the preparation of statutory and GAAP financial statements, ensuring that all financial activities are accurately recorded in the accounting systems. This position is essential for supporting management in making informed economic decisions regarding the company's strategic direction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and support various tasks related to reinsurance reporting and systems within the finance department.
  • Directly analyze and reconcile multiple reinsurance calculation modules within the reinsurance system.
  • Manage components of the monthly reinsurance treaty reporting process, including the preparation of reports and remittances, tracking outstanding receivables, and all associated accounting activities.
  • Prepare and enter monthly and quarterly journal entries.
  • Generate internal and external monthly financial statements and assist with annual audits.
  • Participate in the preparation of annual and quarterly NAIC statutory financial statements.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting policies, including SOX requirements, to maintain audit readiness.
  • Assist in financial planning and analysis, including budgets, forecasts, and capital planning.
  • Engage in various special projects and prioritized initiatives as needed.

Qualifications
  • Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Proficient knowledge of reinsurance contracts, systems, and terminology.
  • Experience with accounting operations and internal control processes.
  • Familiarity with enterprise-level financial systems and data architectures.
  • Ability to manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including management and auditors.
  • Knowledge of Statutory Accounting and insurance operations is advantageous.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proactive self-starter with a commitment to teamwork.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in MS Office applications.

Experience and Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
  • Experience in corporate or public accounting roles is essential, with a preference for candidates with a CPA designation.
  • Hands-on accounting experience within the Property and Casualty Insurance sector is desirable.
