Position Overview

The primary responsibility of this role is to manage the processing and preparation of surgical instruments across various specialties, ensuring the availability of high-quality sterile trays, surgical tools, packs, and medical supplies. This role is crucial for maintaining the operational efficiency of a multi-million-dollar department that operates 24/7.

Key Responsibilities

This position plays an essential role in the Surgical Services Department and other clinical units, as they rely heavily on the prepared instrumentation and equipment. Responsibilities include:

  • Cleaning and assembling surgical instruments.
  • Ensuring sterilization of supplies and initial decontamination of instruments and trays.
  • Acting as a resource for operating room staff.
  • Identifying and managing outside vendor instruments and systems.
  • Assisting outside vendors with instrument maintenance.

Challenges and Considerations

The role requires adaptability to rapidly changing instruments, equipment, and procedures, along with the ability to efficiently manage emergency supply needs. The technician must ensure that all processed instruments meet rigorous sterility standards for safe use in the operating room.

Work Environment

The position may involve exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous gases, chemicals, and sharp instruments. Responsibilities also include monitoring the inventory of instruments, implants, and supplies.
