Position Overview

The primary responsibility of this role is to meticulously process and prepare surgical instruments across various specialties, ensuring the provision of high-quality sterile trays, surgical tools, packs, and medical supplies. This position plays a crucial role in maintaining the operational integrity of a multi-million-dollar department that operates around the clock.

Role Significance

This position is essential to the Surgical Services Department and other clinical units within the Renown Health Network, as these departments rely heavily on the precise preparation of instrumentation and equipment. Key responsibilities include cleaning, assembling instruments, sterilizing supplies, and serving as a knowledgeable resource for operating room staff.

The challenges of this role include adapting to the ever-evolving landscape of surgical instruments, equipment, and procedures, while efficiently managing the urgent needs of emergency cases. It is vital to ensure that all processed instruments meet rigorous standards for sterility and functionality in the operating room. Additionally, this role involves liaising with external vendors, maintaining their instruments, and ensuring compliance with established protocols.

Work conditions may involve exposure to infectious diseases, hazardous gases, chemicals, and risks associated with sharp instruments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and assess the need for instruments, implants, and supplies.
  • Provide expert service to physicians, staff, and external healthcare facilities.
  • Maintain meticulous attention to detail and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Ensure adequate levels of instruments and supplies for routine and emergency use.
  • Adhere to quality assurance standards related to sterilization and infection control.
  • Verify the operational status of all processed equipment.
  • Facilitate the tracking and retrieval of instruments loaned to other departments or hospitals.
  • Educate and train new staff members as necessary.

Qualifications

Education: Proficiency in the English language, encompassing reading, writing, and verbal communication.

Experience: A minimum of one year in Sterile Processing or a related medical field is preferred.

Skills: Basic knowledge of medical instruments, anatomy, physiology, and microbiology. Ability to safely handle potentially infectious materials and operate sterilization equipment.

This position does not involve direct patient care.
