POSITION OVERVIEW:

We are seeking a Thermal and Mechanical Solutions Engineer to join our Datacenter GPU System Solutions Team. This role focuses on developing top-tier thermal and mechanical solutions for AMD's Instinct series accelerators and systems. You will collaborate closely with internal architects, thermal and mechanical design engineers, silicon design engineers, key clients, and industry partners to enhance the overall thermal and mechanical system solutions surrounding AMD EPYC and Instinct products. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, planning capabilities, technical expertise, and critical problem-solving abilities. A deep understanding of data center infrastructure and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multitasking environment are essential.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Collaborate with AMD EPYC and Instinct processor silicon architects, thermal and mechanical architects & designers, PAE Solution architects, and Business Unit Product Marketing Managers to optimize customer system solutions based on AMD Instinct product lines, ensuring optimal performance, power balance, feature set, and overall system cost.
  • Bring a background in thermal and/or mechanical development with a focus on integrating silicon devices into products, data center design, and cooling solutions, while working as part of a global team to deliver commercially viable products efficiently.
  • Manage work assignments and coordinate results with a cross-functional team, while developing key relationships with MDC/OEM/ODM customers. This position emphasizes technology development and productization of thermal/mechanical architecture, packaging technologies, production control, and system-level technologies for AMD's offerings.
  • Engage in post-silicon enablement work with partners, including test planning, characterization, data analysis, and customer/reference system design and characterization. This role requires a high degree of initiative and independent judgment.
  • Influence and effectively communicate your vision throughout the organization, driving continuous improvement and innovative thinking in thermal design, architectures, and product definition.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Demonstrated ability to be a catalyst for innovation and improvement throughout your career, with experience leading and mentoring junior engineers, thereby reinforcing the core values of the team.
  • Technical Leadership Experience - Proven leadership in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, with a track record of mentoring junior engineers and building effective leadership teams. Experience managing multiple technically diverse projects simultaneously is essential.
  • Technical Expertise - Solid understanding of thermal and mechanical design principles, simulation, analysis, design for test, and design for manufacture. Knowledge of server infrastructure design and semiconductor device physics is advantageous. Proficiency in developing mechanical solutions at the silicon, package, and system levels for semiconductor products is required.
  • Thermal and Mechanical Modelling - Familiarity with statistical analysis, structural analysis, Finite Element Analysis, and tolerance analysis.
  • Strategic Insight - The decisions made in this role will significantly impact the organization's capabilities and competitiveness. Therefore, strategic thinking and the ability to define and implement strategies in a high-tech business environment are crucial.
  • Collaboration - Effective teamwork with the entire organization, operations, vendors, and external partners is vital for success. Leading by example and fostering effective collaboration throughout the organization is imperative.
  • Extensive experience in a customer-facing role across various functions within a large organization.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND:

Bachelor's degree in Thermal / Mechanical Engineering or a related field with a minimum of 8 years of experience. An advanced engineering degree is a plus.
