POSITION OBJECTIVE: The Process Improvement Engineer role is dedicated to overseeing all engineering activities related to manufacturing processes at TREMEC. This position collaborates closely with various engineering disciplines including Industrial Engineering, Controls Engineering, Test Engineering, and Manufacturing Engineering Systems.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Facilitate the necessary support for daily production operations, addressing issues such as quality control, equipment downtime, operator training, and problem-solving initiatives.
  • Identify and execute continuous improvement initiatives aimed at helping the facility meet its objectives in safety, quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Assist in the planning, design, specification development, procurement, evaluation, optimization, installation, commissioning, and overall management of new industrial equipment to meet both new product and ongoing production needs. This encompasses assembly facilities, machinery, automation, conveyance systems, assembly stations, tooling, fixtures, gaging, testing equipment, and all process controls necessary for assembling high-quality powertrain components and transmissions.
  • Develop comprehensive process and execution plans for product engineering changes and new product introductions, including process flow diagrams, PFMEAs, control plans, and work instructions.
  • Support maintenance activities to enhance production and facility operations, emphasizing a proactive approach to Preventative and Predictive Maintenance to maximize equipment uptime and availability.
  • Align production, engineering, and maintenance goals to accurately identify critical spare parts and machine components, while effectively managing inventory costs and minimizing production interruptions.
  • Encourage collaborative teamwork within and across departments to foster a world-class manufacturing environment.
  • Assist in program management and the planning and execution of product launches.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures among team members.

CONTINUOUS DEVELOPMENT:

Recognize training needs within the department in collaboration with HR, based on identified gaps in the competency matrix.

Develop tailored training and development plans for individuals.

Work alongside direct supervisors to establish career progression plans.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Foster a culture of respect and adherence to organizational values.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Lead Process Improvement Engineer and Engineering Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Educational Background / Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • 1-2 years of experience in automotive manufacturing or assembly environments.

Technical Skills:

  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing principles and Just-In-Time production systems.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, automation technologies, robotics, vision systems, torque systems, press systems, testing systems, machine controls, and human/machine interface systems, as well as IT infrastructure, MES, simulation, and maintenance management systems.
  • Familiarity with industrial processes including Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VA/VE), New Model Launch, Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), PFMEA, Control Plans, WHMIS, and OHSA regulations.
  • Knowledge of material flow concepts, lean layouts, ergonomics, quality systems, tooling systems, and gaging systems, including GD&T.
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office applications.
