You will be an integral part of our team, spearheading the development of groundbreaking next-generation network devices powered by Cisco Silicon One.
Your Role
In this position, you will engage with the platform engineering mechanical team. Your responsibilities will encompass the current and future mechanical designs of telecom systems. Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and deliver next-generation chassis and cards that align with system product specifications.
  • Conduct detailed 2D tolerance analysis for complex electro-mechanical assemblies using spreadsheets or 3D tolerance analysis tools.
  • Develop innovative mechanical solutions utilizing sheet metal, plastic, and die-cast materials that comply with EMI, safety, and regulatory standards.
  • Create 3D CAD models using advanced software.
  • Generate detailed drawings applying Geometric Tolerancing and Dimensioning (GD&T) principles.
  • Lead issue resolution by collaborating closely with manufacturing teams and suppliers, formulating mitigation strategies, and keeping management updated.
  • Work alongside cross-functional teams (Hardware, Signal Integrity, CAD, Thermal, Manufacturing, etc.) to negotiate requirements and assess technical risks and trade-offs.
  • Partner with thermal engineers to devise and implement effective cooling solutions.
  • Provide technical design mentorship and guidance to junior engineers.
Collaboration
You will collaborate closely with our Mechanical/Thermal group, a dedicated team founded on principles of innovation, teamwork, open communication, and customer success. Additionally, you will work cross-functionally with Hardware Engineering, Product Management, Product Operations, Global Supplier Management, External Vendors, Manufacturing Operations, and partners.

You are a creative and technically adept individual with a strong mechanical aptitude, excelling in problem-solving and embracing complex challenges. As a technical leader, you are passionate about design and innovation, demonstrating the initiative to work independently and transform strategic visions into reality. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, a robust analytical mindset, and a collaborative spirit that prioritizes listening, compromise, and teamwork to discover optimal product solutions.
Essential Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field with 8+ years of experience in designing electronic enclosures.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in the design of computing or networking products.
  • Proficiency in 3D MCAD tools.
  • Experience in sheet metal design.
  • Familiarity with GD&T and tolerance analysis.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field with 6+ years of experience in designing electronic enclosures.
  • Relevant experience in mechanical design for computer or networking equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing tooling for various materials.
  • Experience in designing plastic and die-cast components.
  • Experience in mechanism design.
  • Experience in conducting static and dynamic analysis using simulation tools.
  • Expertise in tolerance analysis and statistical analysis.
  • Experience in Model-Based Definition (MBD).
