Job Overview

Objective: The STEAM sector is rapidly expanding, yet representation among BIPOC individuals and women remains limited. Engaging youth in STEAM through afterschool initiatives is crucial for fostering interest and building a strong identity in these fields. Research indicates that diverse teams enhance innovation and productivity, highlighting the importance of inclusive participation in STEAM careers.

The Kids in Tech Afterschool Program seeks enthusiastic instructors to join our program teams. These instructors will provide essential STEAM support to students aged 9-14 (grades 4-8) in various educational settings.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish meaningful connections with students, serving as a relatable mentor to illustrate the relevance of STEAM in everyday life.
  • Foster a positive and structured learning environment.
  • Collaborate with site staff to ensure the STEAM curriculum aligns with student needs.
  • Facilitate two cohorts of afterschool sessions each week, delivering engaging lessons over the course of the program.
  • Design and prepare hands-on learning activities, coordinate field trips, and invite guest speakers to enrich the curriculum.
  • Promote family involvement by reaching out to families regularly to enhance STEAM engagement.
  • Engage in ongoing communication with families through newsletters and updates about student activities.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance and outcomes.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum age of 16 years, with current enrollment in high school or college, or possession of a high school diploma/GED.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident.
  • Ability to pass a National Service Criminal History Check.
  • Background or strong interest in a STEAM-related field is preferred.
  • Experience in education or youth development, demonstrating the ability to engage effectively with children.
  • Proficiency in multiple languages is a plus.
  • Local residency or reliable transportation to program sites is required.
