Position Overview:

Working Title: Security Specialist II -- Part-Time Role

Location: Virginia Department of Transportation

This part-time position offers up to 29 hours per week, requiring availability for rotating shifts, including morning, afternoon, and overnight hours.

The Virginia Department of Transportation is seeking a dedicated individual to oversee the safety and security of our facilities, ensuring a secure environment for employees, visitors, and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular patrols of the premises to maintain a secure atmosphere.
  • Monitor and manage access to state property, providing guidance and assistance as necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with established security protocols and safety measures.
  • Serve as a backup for administrative support, including maintaining essential office documentation.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License.
  • Ability to successfully complete CPR, First Aid, and physical/behavior management training.
  • Proficient in data collection, information compilation, and report preparation using computer systems.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to respond appropriately in both routine and emergency situations.
  • Familiarity with safety procedures and the ability to follow specific instructions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Possession of a valid private Security Services Certification from the Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) is preferred.
  • Prior experience in a security role is highly desirable.

Special Requirements:
