Overview

This position is eligible for telework in accordance with the Agency's remote work policy.

Located within the Office of Finance and Operations, this role is integral to the Department of Education's Continuity and Disaster Preparedness Program Team. The selected candidate will contribute to the Office of Security, Facilities, and Logistics.

Key Responsibilities

As an Operations Security Analyst, you will be tasked with:

• Assisting in the execution of security protocols for Operations Security (OPSEC) by advising personnel and contractors involved in the development of information systems. You will prepare technical documentation and briefings to address security concerns and support the implementation of recommended actions.

• Engaging in various OPSEC initiatives, conducting assessments, coordinating surveys, and preparing informative materials on security topics. Staying updated on advancements in security technology is essential.

• Facilitating the sharing of best practices and productivity enhancements within the Department of Education's OPSEC program. Investigating areas that may yield benefits or pose challenges is also part of your role.

• Contributing to the security awareness and education program by creating diverse materials such as briefings, newsletters, and informational booklets.

• Serving as the OPSEC Program Manager, overseeing the establishment, implementation, and maintenance of the Department's OPSEC initiatives.

• Conducting security administration duties that encompass various security programs, ensuring compliance with relevant directives and regulations.

• Developing and proposing enhancements to ongoing security efforts, advising on the implementation of security measures, and preparing necessary documentation.

• Managing multiple OPSEC projects, conducting assessments, and preparing reports on security-related topics.

Conditions of Employment
  • Relocation expenses will not be covered.
  • May require a probationary period.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Completion of a background investigation is mandatory.
All qualifications must be met within a specified timeframe.

For current federal employees, time-in-grade and time-after competitive appointment qualifications must also be satisfied within the same timeframe.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications for the GS-12 level include specialized experience in security programs and policies.

Specialized experience for the GS-12 includes:

1. Assisting with security program implementation in line with agency policies.
2. Interpreting laws and directives related to the OPSEC program.
3. Monitoring and evaluating OPSEC program effectiveness.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) will be assessed based on your experience.

Education

Education cannot substitute for experience in this role.
