Role Overview

The PLC Programming Technician plays a crucial role in the design, development, maintenance, and troubleshooting of machinery that utilizes PLCs for process automation. Additionally, this position involves diagnosing and resolving electrical and mechanical issues, as well as conducting routine and fundamental maintenance on equipment.

This role may require working beyond the standard 40 hours per week, with overtime determined by job responsibilities and departmental needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Programming: Develop and enhance programs that control and monitor machinery to ensure efficient and safe production processes.
  • Maintenance: Identify and rectify issues with PLC-driven systems.
  • Design: Reconfigure existing machinery as necessary.
  • Support: Offer ongoing assistance for PLCs across various operational settings.
  • Ensure a consistently safe working environment.
  • Complete assignments promptly with minimal supervision.
  • Assess all machinery and compile a list of necessary enhancements.
  • Concentrate on improving machine efficiency and overall processes.

Qualifications

To excel in this role, candidates must effectively fulfill each essential duty. The following qualifications are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience with electrical systems, hydraulics, mechanics, and PLC programming is essential.
  • Experience in manufacturing, particularly in the food or pharmaceutical sectors, is preferred.
  • Prior knowledge in areas such as machine components, instrumentation, hydraulics/pneumatics, workplace safety, and comprehension of work instructions is advantageous.
  • Expertise in PLC programming and troubleshooting is required.
  • Experience with:
    • Conducting routine preventative maintenance.
    • Installing, verifying, and validating new equipment.
    • Disassembling and rebuilding machinery.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Familiarity with GMP and safety regulations.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills are necessary.
  • Being bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
  • Ability to complete and pass a skills assessment.
  • Capability to pass a physical and functional job screening.
