General Description and Classification Standards

The Department of City Planning (DCP) provides the leadership role in creating opportunities for our City to continue to grow and sustain our diverse communities that define and give Atlanta its unique character. The Department’s objective is to guide the development of the City through planning, design review, plan approval, code compliance, and housing assistance. The Department’s Neighborhood Planning Division provides support and oversight to the twenty five Neighborhood Planning Units (NPUs) to promote the planned and equitable growth of Atlanta’s neighborhoods. The Neighborhood Planning Division’s Program Coordinator effectively communicates and interacts with NPU leaders, department staff and other city departments and partners, and members of the public to facilitate coordination of meeting agendas, presentations, public notices, and applicant correspondence. The NPU Support Team is a collaborative team that focuses heavily on its guiding principles and prioritizes outcomes.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. May perform other duties as assigned. 

The Program Coordinator, Sr. plans and coordinates one or more of the various programs supporting the neighborhood planning unit system. This role is primarily responsible for setting priorities for managing programs, preparing program plans, including timelines, budget, desired outcomes, and assessment measures; and executing approved plans. 

Duties include: 

Planning and coordinating program activities and events; scheduling program work.

Procuring supplies, goods or services necessary to ensure program effectiveness.

Presenting information to promote programs, and marketing and communications

Create metrics to measure impact; collect, maintain and interpret relevant data.

 

Secure any supplies, goods, or services necessary to ensure program effectiveness.

 

Coordinate marketing and outreach to the community.

 

Maintain program budget and prepare financial statements.

Other duties may include: Working with NPU leaders, residents and stakeholders to implement programming, managing a robust calendar, web and publication updates, record-keeping, written correspondence, and preparing public notices.

The successful candidate is skilled at completing multiple tasks simultaneously, able to manage competing priorities, and produce precise deliverables under critical time constraints. The selected candidate is capable of carrying out most assignments typical of an administrative professional with limited guidance or oversight. The candidate is able to use independent judgment and discretion including the handling of critical situations, determining and deciding upon procedures to be implemented, setting priorities, maintaining standards, and resolving problems. Has the ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply regulations, procedures, and related information. Is knowledgeable and proficient with computers.
