General Description

The Department of City Planning (DCP) provides the leadership role in creating opportunities for our City to continue to grow and sustain our diverse communities that define and give Atlanta its unique character. The Department’s objective is to guide the development of the City through planning, design review, plan approval, code compliance, and housing assistance. The Department’s Neighborhood Planning Division provides support and oversight to the twentyfive Neighborhood Planning Units (NPUs) to promote the planned and equitable growth of Atlanta’s neighborhoods. The Neighborhood Planning Division’s Program Coordinator effectively communicates and interacts with NPU leaders, department staff and other city departments and partners, and members of the public to facilitate the coordination of meeting agendas, presentations, public notices, and applicant correspondence. The NPU Support Team is a collaborative team that focuses heavily on its guiding principles and prioritizes outcomes.

Supervision Received 

Direction received is general and focuses more on long-term and short-term operating objectives, organizational effectiveness, and operating results.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. May perform other duties as assigned. 

The NPU Program Coordinator is part of the NPU Resources & Support Team and coordinates support for the neighborhood planning units, neighborhood organizations, the Atlanta Planning Advisory Board, and the NPU Technology Advisory Group (NPUTAG). This support may involve managing technological tools, including virtual meeting software, cloud productivity and collaboration tools, online voting software, the NPU dashboard and neighborhood asset mapping. The Program Coordinator assists in the development, coordination, and implementation of GIS related projects and programs, and may also assist with preparing meeting packets, scheduling meetings, web and publication updates, issuing and coordinating notices to appear, and preparing public notices. The NPU Program Coordinator supports program activities by applying GIS tools and data to assist with neighborhood planning and contribute to overall program success. The role includes supporting the creation and maintenance of GIS databases and ensuring data accuracy.

The ideal candidate is someone who has a deep appreciation and respect for Atlanta’s varied neighborhoods and the diverse people who live and do business here; has exceptional organizational skills; and is able to assemble information to curate and deliver written reports and documents in a concise, clear and effective manner. The ideal candidate is a highly organized professional who is thorough, self-directed and attentive to detail. The successful candidate has basic knowledge of GIS software (e.g. ArcGIS) and spatial data management, and is familiar with geospatial data formats (e.g. shapefiles). The candidate enjoys performing data collection, analysis and mapping using GIS, and is skilled at completing multiple tasks simultaneously. The preferred candidate is able to manage competing priorities and produce precise deliverables under critical time constraints.
