Summary In this position, you will serve as an Insurance Examiner in the Resilience Federal Insurance Directorate. The ideal candidate has working in the property and casualty insurance sector, including flood insurance, whether as an agent, adjuster, examiner, or a position that required implementing guidance and policy language. Responsibilities What will I do in this position if hired? In this position, you will an Insurance Examiner. Typical assignments include: Preparing and reviewing directives, guidelines, forms and other documents regarding flood insurance matters. Working with the contractor staff to develop and document practice and procedure manuals, including: the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) Claims Manual and the Flood Insurance Manual. Analyzing and providing recommendations of management procedures and policy revisions covering a variety of insurance issues. Providing expert evaluations of special projects relating to procedural materials, claims manuals, and other matters upon request. Providing recommendations on amendments and revisions to regulations, procedures, and practices pertaining to insurance coverage and claims. Preparing Rules and Regulations that implement the intent and directions of Congress in the conduct and scope of the NFIP. Interpreting the intent of the guides, resolving complex issues and problems, and developing applications to specific areas of work, for example: Write Your Own (WYO) Program Basic Operational Documents; NFIP Flood Insurance Manual; NFIP Claims Manual; and Published NFIP Claims Practices and Procedures. Qualifications Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the Federal service. The time-in-grade and qualification requirements must be met within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement. To qualify for this position at the GS-13 level, you must possess one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal government, which has equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. Experience may be obtained in the federal government, a state or local government, or private sector, and must demonstrate the following: Selling, underwriting, adjusting, or examining property insurance policies, policy files, or claims; and, Reviewing property insurance questions; and, Speaking to policyholders, policyholder representatives (e.g., attorneys,public adjusters, etc.), or government officials regarding property insurance.
