About the Role

The State of Washington's Office of the Insurance Commissioner is seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to fill the Chief Market Conduct Examiner position. This role is assigned to the Company Supervision Division, located in our Tumwater office.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the Market Examinations Unit, overseeing a team of professionals who administer market conduct continuums and examinations.
  • Provide strategic leadership and guidance to the team, ensuring high-quality results and adherence to regulatory standards.
  • Develop and implement effective examination plans, ensuring thoroughness and timeliness.
  • Collaborate with the NAIC and regulatory workgroups to stay up-to-date on industry developments and best practices.
  • Oversee updates to the NAIC's Market Action Tracking System (MATS) and ensure timely carrier reporting.
Requirements
  • Seven (7) years of insurance experience, including a combination of degree completion and/or working in the insurance industry in an operational area such as underwriting, claims, internal audit, or customer service.
  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience, including oversight of training programs for new employees.
  • Intermediate level Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Understanding of the insurance industry and hands-on familiarity with insurance company operations.
  • Intermediate level knowledge of TeamMate software.
  • Related insurance industry designations such as AIE, CIE, FLMI, CLU, CPCU, MCM, AIRC, or currently taking classes to achieve a related designation.
  • Three (3) years of regulatory experience in a similar position and in a similar unit.
