Responsibilities:

Job Summary:

This role involves conducting forensic examinations as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE), providing crisis intervention, and offering personal support in collaboration with the Social Work department on a per diem basis.


Key Responsibilities:


- Conduct thorough forensic assessments, screenings, and evaluations of patients who have experienced sexual assault, adhering to established protocols and guidelines.

- Collect and preserve physical evidence while maintaining the chain of custody for each examination.

- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop treatment recommendations in line with established protocols, ensuring adherence to SANE requirements and patient rights.

- Ensure compliance with state reporting mandates and maintain accurate documentation as required by departmental policies and regulatory agencies.

- Coordinate with community resources for medical discharge planning for patients affected by sexual assault.

- Provide expert testimony in court regarding SANE examinations, evidence, and findings.

- Apply appropriate protocols during SANE examinations and assess patient care needs effectively.

- Utilize forensic equipment, including cameras and colposcopes, to document injuries and collect evidence.

- Maintain knowledge of regulations, protocols, techniques, and tools related to SANE forensic examinations, focusing on the collection and preservation of forensic evidence and effective patient care methodologies.


Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

- A minimum of one year of relevant experience in an acute care environment demonstrating the necessary job knowledge and skills.

- Graduation from an accredited nursing program; a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.

- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse from the appropriate state nursing board.

- Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association. Note that ongoing competency certification is required post-hire.

- Certification as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner from the International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN) is preferred and must be maintained.
