General Summary

Under general supervision, will coordinate all career services, college and career readiness, and work-based learning activities for students 9-12th grade at assigned location(s) in the district.

Essential Functions

  • Supports and upholds the mission, vision, and strategic goals of Lexington County School District One.
  • Effectively interacts, communicates, and collaborates with all stakeholders.
  • Establishes a safe, supportive, positive, and productive working and learning environment.
  • Collaborates with school counseling staff to enhance the total comprehensive counseling program and promote the goals of quality career development.
  • Integrates school counseling programs along with career awareness and exploration activities into the curricula.
  • Collaborates with school counseling staff in identifying student career interests and abilities and aligning them with clusters of study for the development of individual graduation plans.
  • Support the school counseling department with Individual Graduation Plan (IGP) efforts while serving as a referral for counselors in determining career pathways using career resources and materials.
  • Evaluates, selects, and administers South Carolina Occupational Information System (SCOIS), MajorClarity, YouScience and other career interest inventories.
  • Guides students, individually or as a group through the college and career preparation process to prepare them for success by administering career assessments, conducting resume and cover letter writing, interviewing skills training, researching and identifying information and resource material, etc.
  • Obtains and manages career development resources.
  • Provides school assistance for school career days/fairs, classroom speakers, career topics, and career development activities for teachers/courses.
  • Provides educators, parents, and students with information on career and technology education programs offered in the district.
  • Provides work-based learning (WBL) data for entry into PowerSchool (internship, cooperative education, apprenticeships, school based enterprises, service-learning, job shadowing, structured field study and mentoring).
  • Provides career counseling activities data (career classroom lessons, schoolwide/district career events, college and/or career fairs, Pre-IGP activities, conducting career assessments and using a CCR platform) that is reported on Career Specialists Accountability Report (CSAR).
  • Evaluates lesson resources, orders and keeps inventory of resources and supplies.
  • Coordinates and presents professional development workshops in career development and guidance for teachers, school counselors, parents, and work-based constituents.
  • Recognize ways to improve and promote career development opportunities within the district.
  • Collaborates with all stakeholders in facilitating the CCR process within their school. Plans, coordinates and participates in the CCR process for all students.
  • Prepares engaging career awareness and exploration lessons and writing assignments that introduce employability skills, career clusters and pathways that begins the process of preparing students for college and career readiness.
  • Coordinate, advertise, and inform students and community of work-based learning opportunities. Provides assistance to students in locating meaningful work-based learning opportunities within the greater Lexington/Columbia area.
  • Facilitates, coordinates, and manages all aspects of the internship, co-op, and youth apprenticeship program (application completion, submission and approval process, training agreements, student orientation, assignments, and other requirements of program).
  • Assists schools in planning and developing parent information on career development.
  • Collaborates and assists with the coordination and implementation of district and school career events (Military Signing Day, Michelin Tours, etc.)
  • Enter student data for grade reporting, final reports, assignments, all work-based learning experiences. Submits other reports and documentation as required.
  • Assists with Education and Economic Development Act (EEDA) compliance and collaborates with the school Director of Counseling and Advisement and district EEDA Accountability Coordinator with preparation and submission of EEDA Accountability Report.
  • Seeks opportunities in the business community to partner for work-based learning options.
  • Meets with employers/businesses to build partnership opportunities for all work-based learning options, speakers, sponsorships, volunteers, etc. for schools/students and the community.
  • Participates in professional development, training programs, networking meetings, professional organizations, local chamber meetings, as appropriate.
  • Selects, requests, and maintains an inventory of instructional aides, technology tools, equipment, and supplies needed for daily activities; provides for safe storage and proper use of all materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Effectively uses personal technology devices and software applications for the management of pertinent information and communication.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Education/Work Experience
  • Bachelor's degree
  • National Career Development Facilitator (CDF) certificate
  • Valid South Carolina driver's license
Preferred Qualifications
  • Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF) (must obtain within 1 year upon being hired)
  • Previously work-based learning or business/industry experience


Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge of the policies, procedures and activities of the school district which pertain to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. Knowledge of departmental policies, procedures, and operations. Experience with classroom management, working with students in a classroom environment. Attention to detail, office skills and management of reports which must be prepared and maintained. Ability to maintain high standards of accuracy in exercising duties. Takes initiative, ability to anticipate work to be completed by deadline dates and work without the need for direct supervision. Ability to maintain confidentiality of employee and student records and information. Thorough understanding of district curriculum framework, EEDA as it relates to career specialists, and state/district guidelines. Ability to demonstrate high level application of technology devices and software in the performance of daily activities. Ability to demonstrate proper maintenance, safe operation and utilization of equipment, materials and supplies used in daily activities. Ability to interact and communicate effectively with elementary students, parents, teachers, administrators, colleagues, business partners and all other stakeholders involved in the activities of the job.

Working Conditions

Conducts duties in an office/classroom environment with no significant exposure to environmental conditions.Requires ability to maintain constant attention and meet deadlines. Physical demands are restricted to office work requiring lifting/moving of items weighing up to twenty-five pounds. Local travel is required; no overnight travel is required. Job requires the operation of standard office and technology equipment.

Evaluation

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the School Board's policy on Evaluation of Support Staff.
