Wildlife Enforcement Specialist

Key Responsibilities:

  • Understands and enforces relevant animal welfare laws and regulations

  • Rescues stray and at-risk animals

Informs pet owners about impounded animals

  • Assesses situations, collaborates with veterinary staff when necessary, and provides basic care for animals
  • Responds positively to feedback and adheres to organizational hierarchy
  • Maintains an exemplary driving record
  • Operates dispatch systems as required
  • Supports investigations of animal cruelty as needed
  • Collaborates with other agencies and departments
  • Collects evidence and may testify in court as required
  • Processes incoming animals in accordance with protocols

Wildlife Enforcement Specialists (WES) respond to community requests for assistance with animal-related issues, enforce laws and regulations, patrol neighborhoods, and educate the public on responsible pet ownership.

WES operate with a high degree of independence, self-direction, and public interaction.

Candidates must be able to read, comprehend, and articulate applicable state and local laws, regulations, and ordinances; gain cooperation from the public; assess situations and determine appropriate actions; exercise tact and independent judgment in public interactions; and communicate effectively with diverse audiences.


Candidates must be at least 21 years old, possess a high school diploma or equivalent, hold a valid driver's license, and undergo a background and motor vehicle check. Successful completion of a 60-day onboarding and training program is also required.

FLEXIBLE AVAILABILITY AND WILLINGNESS TO WORK VARIOUS SHIFTS IS ESSENTIAL. Candidates must be prepared to work overnight and on-call shifts in rotation with other Wildlife Enforcement Specialists.
