Network Design Engineer

Network Design Engineer
NoaNet is currently seeking a qualified mid-level Network Design Engineer. The successful candidate must have an understanding of DWDM, Ethernet, MPLS, Routing, Switching, QOS and overall Network design. An understanding of last mile Passive Optical Networks (PON) is also desired. The successful candidate must also be able to contribute to these functions in case of a crisis or resource shortage.

Basic Qualifications:

BS degree in applicable engineering, computer science or related disciplines from an accredited college or university. In lieu of degree a high school diploma and at least 10 additional years of relevant experience is acceptable. A general knowledge of project management, standard network architecture concepts, practices and applications is desired.

Network Engineering Skills:

  • Advanced understanding of IP routing.
  • Understanding of Ethernet switching.
  • Understanding of basic DWDM concepts and components.
  • Routing Protocols - must have an advanced understanding of all common routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, etc.) used in a network environment.
  • Knowledge of MPLS preferred.
  • Knowledge of last mile Passive Optical Networks is preferred. (GPON, XGSPON, 25G-PON, etc)
  • Network trouble-shooting capabilities with debug.race option commands and the impact of these on the production environment is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Core, Distribution, and Access network designs and topologies.
  • Familiarity with Network security design (Authentication, Firewalls, Remote Access, Access Control Lists, Role and Password Management and Configuration management) preferred.
  • Develop and manage technical support documentation
Additional Skills:
  • Ability to manage projects/programs from concept development through implementation.
  • Strong organizational, coordination, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong people skills and the willingness to be accountable for results.
  • A proactive approach to projects and issue resolution.
  • Ability to set own priorities as well as manage changing priorities and to handle several complex tasks concurrently.
  • Must have excellent direct customer relationship skills.
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations explaining products or services to customers and prospective customers with direction from Sales Account Manager.
  • Confer with customers and NoaNet engineers to assess equipment needs and to determine system requirements.
  • Collaborate with sales teams to understand customer requirements and provide sales support.
  • Secure and renew orders and support order fulfillment.
  • Plan and modify products to meet customer needs.
  • Help Operations solve problems with installed equipment.
  • Help in researching and developing new products and services.
Preferred Vendor Specific Network Equipment Skills:
  • ADVA optical equipment
  • Nokia MPLS equipment
  • Nokia GPON/XGSPON equipment
Location and Logistics:
  • Primary job location: Washington State (Remote)
  • Frequent travel requires location with convenient access to air travel.
  • On-call for network outages that are escalated to engineering.
