SUMMARY OF POSITION

The City of Pasco is in search of a skilled, strategic, and personable engineering expert to take on the role of Lead Transportation Engineer. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Responsibilities may vary based on departmental or city needs. Key functions include:
  • Providing traffic engineering, coordination, management, and support for the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of both in-house and consultant-designed transportation projects.
  • Monitoring and maintaining the operation of the traffic signal system, including developing signal timing plans and responding to community concerns.
  • Developing, recommending, and implementing intersection and signal system timings, as well as appropriate traffic control devices and detour patterns for construction activities.
  • Conducting traffic studies and analyses to determine intersection service levels, including crash analysis and pedestrian activity assessments.
  • Engaging with city officials, contractors, consulting engineers, and the public regarding traffic and transportation engineering matters.
  • Reviewing accident records and conducting studies for modifications to traffic control devices.
  • Evaluating complex engineering plans and drawings for compliance with city standards, providing feedback on deficiencies and corrective actions.
  • Communicating with residents to address inquiries and resolve issues effectively.
  • Developing and proposing new city specifications and ordinances, staying updated on state and federal regulations.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Performing a variety of office and field support tasks as needed.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Any equivalent combination of education and experience that equips the applicant with the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities for the role.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Traffic Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in traffic or transportation engineering design.
  • Experience with public works and public agency projects is preferred.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Licenses and certifications may be obtained on the job as agreed upon by the City and employee, subject to operational needs.
  • Valid Washington State driver's license.
  • Registered Professional Engineer in Washington State (PE) or reciprocity within six months.
  • Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification in Washington State is desirable.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
