Responsibilities

The Information Technology Directorate is looking for an Enterprise Network Services Technician II (IT Support Specialist II) to join their Network Edge Technology team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ability to configure and understand large scale network, VLAN configurations.
  • Responsible for following the company directed network security protocols.
  • Install cables, fiber, phones and video cameras.
  • Install, deploy and maintain Wi-Fi networks.
  • Possess and understanding of 802.11 protocols.
  • Possess the ability to learn and understand RF frequencies to gain an understanding of wireless systems.
  • Communicate with internal personnel, complete work requests, work orders, equipment evaluations, technical advice, and issues regarding network services.
  • Install and maintain DC power distribution panels, DC power plants, battery backup systems, and other forms of uninterruptible power supplies.
  • Maintain, update, and upgrade customer-serviceable radio and microwave hardware, firmware, and software.
  • Large scale deployment of wireless access points and VoIP telephone systems.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed documentation of network configurations and cabling layouts, hardware equipment, etc.
  • Survey outdoor cabling infrastructure, analyze engineering drawings, and design pathways to deliver analog and digital services between buildings.
  • Perform other duties assigned by Management. 
Qualifications
  • Associates degree in MIS, Computer Science or equivalent with at least one year of related experience.
  • Knowledge of copper and fiber cable color codes.
  • Basic understanding of fiber and ethernet terminations.
  • Knowledge of low voltage circuit concepts.
  • Experience deploying, maintaining, and troubleshooting large scale network devices.
  • Experience managing projects, while documenting and scheduling work in a high paced environment.
  • Experience with wired and wireless communications and public address systems for public safety, indoor and outdoor venues.
  • Preferred familiarity with network systems design and deployments.
  • Experience with how to read and understand engineering drawings for new network deployment.
  • Ability to take charge and oversee the deployment of network devices from beginning to end.
  • Preferred knowledge of grounding and bonding copper infrastructure.
  • Preferred knowledge of horizontal and backbone cabling pathway systems.
  • The primary work location will be at the Nevada National Security Site (located 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada).
  • Work schedule will be 4/10s Monday through Thursday (subject to change).
  • May be requested to perform on call work and must be able to work nonstandard hours when requested.
  • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. In addition, Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2, “Personnel Security”. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted.  Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, required to participate in subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709, “Counterintelligence Evaluation Program.”
