Role Overview

The Registered Dietitian (RD) II is an advanced-level position that signifies a high level of expertise, supported by credentials from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND), Commission for Dietetic Registration, American Society for Enteral and Parenteral Nutrition (ASPEN), or other recognized specialty certifications. The RD II collaborates with healthcare team members to deliver medical nutrition therapy (MNT) based on current scientific literature and best practices. Utilizing the Nutrition Care Process, the RD II conducts nutrition assessments and re-assessments, identifies nutrition-related issues, formulates and implements suitable interventions, and monitors the effectiveness of these interventions. The RD II also provides nutritional counseling and education to patients, caregivers, and family members as required. Furthermore, the RD II engages in performance improvement (PI) initiatives, community education, teaches the bariatric class, participates in outpatient services, interdisciplinary patient rounds, partnership councils, the Nutrition Support Team, and other administrative duties as assigned. The RD II may lead or participate in performance improvement activities and serves as a mentor to other RDs and the Diet Office/Hostess Staff as needed. The RD II is recognized as a leader within the hospital and the nutrition community, serving as a mentor and resource in the community.

Key Responsibilities

1. Utilize expertise in normal and therapeutic nutrition, medical terminology, nutritional assessment, and care planning; document nutrition counseling and communication in the electronic medical record (EMR).

2. Conduct nutrition assessments for all patients, identifying nutritional risk levels and entering relevant data (clinical notes, acuity, follow-up, etc.) into the EMR.

3. Provide nutritional counseling to patients regarding medical nutrition therapy based on scientific literature and best practices.

4. Assist with monthly performance improvement projects by collecting data and generating reports.

5. Communicate effectively in both verbal and written English.

6. Deliver exceptional customer service to meet patients' needs.

7. Collaborate with physicians and ancillary staff to implement nutrition recommendations and enhance patient services.

8. Adhere to infection control policies and procedures for safe food handling.

9. Mentor other RDs and the Diet Office/Hostess Staff through in-services and guidance as needed.

10. Contribute as a team member to complete tasks, resolve issues, and achieve departmental objectives.

11. Maintain a clean and organized working environment.

12. Uphold criteria for RD II status.

13. Demonstrate punctuality and reliability in attendance.

14. Follow company policies, procedures, and directives.

15. Interact positively and constructively with colleagues.

16. Prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities effectively.

*Placement in the pay range is determined by various factors, including relevant years of experience and qualifications. Qualifications

Experience:

• 3-5 years in an acute care hospital setting preferred.

• Experience as a clinical dietitian to support Specialty Certification.

Education/Certification:

• Bachelor's Degree in Dietetics or Food and Nutrition from an accredited institution required. A Master's Degree in Nutrition or a related field is preferred.

• Completion of an AND-approved dietetic internship or advanced degree with AND qualifying experience is required. Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) credential is mandatory.

• One Specialty Certification is required:
  • Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC), Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE), Sweet Success, Certified Specialist in Oncology Nutrition (CSO), Certificate of Training in Obesity Interventions for Adults from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR), Certified Specialist in Renal Nutrition (CSR), Certified Specialist in Gerontological Nutrition (CSG), International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), ServSafe
