The position is responsible for activities relating to program analysis, design, end-user support, and technical and user documentation for the college’s enterprise systems. This position is responsible for programming support for the college’s enterprise systems and third-party applications and integrations. This position works with the Director of Institutional Research on all state and federal reporting.

Essential Functions and Duties

  • Develop or modify technical programs and reports to address client needs. a thorough knowledge of products, services and skills required to support existing and future ERP systems.
  • Coordinate activities relating to the analysis, design, coding, testing, implementation, and support of Polk State College’s web application using web-based solutions (e.g., JAVA, PHP, XML).
  • Implement released fixes and annual updates to the institution’s enterprise systems.
  • Maintain the integrity of systems through problem detection, resolution, and prevention techniques, including performance analysis and tuning, debugging and security design.
  • Analyze application development tools, operating systems, databases, and network infrastructure to create efficient, well-designed, and easily maintainable systems.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Skills

  • Ability to develop and support production applications on a Java Platform using SQL Server.
  • Experience with SQL, Python, and/or R programming languages.
  • Experience in Oracle, Java Script as well as various API data transport protocols.
  • Research and analytical skills with ability to challenge, conceptualize and recommend improved and alternative solutions.
  • Ability to accurately identify the scope of work proposed while preparing detailed technical documents and estimates.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to express complex technical concepts in business terms.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with college employees and vendors.
  • Understanding of student information systems (SIS) in a cloud environment. Knowledge of Banner SaaS is preferred. .

Working Conditions/Additional Information

  • This position is a full-time on-campus position located at our Winter Haven campus, but will travel to event locations as necessary. (Remote/hybrid options are not available.)
  • Weekend and evening work may be required.
  • Position may be required to work during College closures (such as winter/spring break and inclement weather closures).
  • Reliable transportation is required for travel to other campuses and locations.
  • This position will require the ability to lift at least 20 lbs.

Required Education:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (or a related field) from a regionally accredited institution is required.

Preferred Education:

  • A master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution and at least two years of relevant experience.

Required Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of programming/relevant IT experience is required.
    • Student field experience may be used if relevant.
    • Master's Degree or verified advanced certifications may substitute for 1 year of experience.
